Teaser online in better format

From the much-clearer teaser, it looks as if it is being assembled in distinct piece -- saucer, nacelles and struts. While in the final shot, it appears as if the nacelles and saucer are locked into their final place; I doubt that they are. From other shots in the trailer, it seems that several pieces, like the struts that hold the saucer and the nacelles onto the secondary hull, are being built in proximity to one another but are not yet fully connected. Therefore, it is still possible for the ship to be brought in pieces into orbit for final assembly.

Your first screen shot... I'm assuming that's on top of one of the nacelles?

I'm not sure. Could be the back of the secondry hull. Between the pylons.

Too me, Earth or orbit doesn't matter so much now that I've seen it. All I care about now is...That Was Awesome.

What's wrong with the ship being built on earth?

I ain't got a problem with it. In fact, I think it's a fresh approach, one that many wouldn't expect as it goes against the idea that all starships must be built in space. Further, it provides a wonderful link not only to NASA and the space program, but to the naval history that is part of Trek.

Could be, but comparing the front-end still and that shot, the shape matches, as well as the bump up where the Gabe Cowl™ is.

Arlo

So we're now officially calling it Gabe Cowl ?

* If so I can live with that *

Primary hull looks like the refit almost 100% - how will this fit in the canon timeline?? Or is JJ just ignoring the tv series and going with TMP pre refit look? Starting to look that way...

Hopefully they're not taking too much notice of the canon timeline and just making a good-looking ship.

Nothing, as is demonstrated by the TNG shot of a Galaxy-class ship being built on the surface of Mars. Building them down here in pieces is cool, and means they wont lose so many spanners as they would in orbit.

It definitely looks like the top of the nacelle facing aft. Those bump-outs match the ones you can see in the final shot nacelle. Plus you can see the crane in the background.

I think its cool to have the enterprise being built on earth, but I have a real problem with it being built in one piece there and am having horrible visions of it blasting off a la "Lost in Space" style when it is launched.

Also I'm fairly certain Enterprise NX-01 was built in space although I have to actual proof of this other than the fact that Columbia was.

Really starting to get excited about this movie now, there's a real buzz circling the web right now, its a good feeling - something I have not felt since Generations.
