Team Nudist or Team Swinger? French town has a war on their hands

Well...that article photo was unpleasant.

While I have no intention of practicing it myself, I do know enough about nudism to not be shocked about their reaction to the sex. Nudists can be uppity about that, as if a relaxed body is okay, but an aroused one-you gotta keep that out of sight.

Interesting how the people who are nudists are ones that you really don't want to see naked...

I understand how they feel. It would be the equivalent of a bunch of wild party-goers moving in to nice, quiet neighborhood and blasting music all hours of the night, except multiplied ten fold.

freakin' hilarious. have a friend who worked as a security guard at a nudist camp one summer. he said it was horrible!

Since both groups are naked, I prefer to think of it as more akin to a disagreement over the musical styles being played. Classical vs punk rock. With the classical conductor now waving his baton around to demonstrate displeasure.

So... they have no clothes, and so presumably were carrying no valuables beyond what God gave them. What was he guarding? :D

I just wish that this town was located somewhere in the US (for best effect somewhere in the bible belt or the deep south) and watch the news agencies and commentaries explode

In France (and most of Europe) this gets a "Meh.. ugly people running around naked.."

You assume there isn't. The south is a big area and using terms like "Bible Belt" paints a very broad stroke and makes assumptions that you really shouldn't.

The freakiest people I know go to church every Sunday. The mid-day service, since they're not waking up for 9AM.

Or we can pull another card from the deck and make it about your country and it's problems. Yeah, I think I can find plenty that Germany can be accused of doing, even in modern times.

Don't go there. I've had enough people making nasty comments lately and I'm just about to let off on the next person to make an asnine comment generalizing an entire country from their own biased and ignorant point of view.

Well, the way I see it, for nudists, it's not about sex. For them it's all about comfort. In fact, in nudist circles, you're not even allowed to show arousal, otherwise you might be seen as indecent. So for swingers to come in and do exactly the opposite of what they're doing, well, I think they have a right to be angry. It also serves to give the nudists a bad name if the swingers get into trouble.

I can understand nudists concerns about swingers in public although nudists themselves ought to see the irony in shunning a group of people for their own habits. In private they should have a right to do as they please. At this point from the article it's hard to tell if the nudists want the swingers gone from their area completely or just to stop doing whatever sex acts were being done in public and keep them private.

Owain has already explained it from the perspective I have (good going, Owain!). Nudists don't find nudity itself to be sexual. So being naked has nothing to do with it in this situation, hence the comparison between a quiet neighborhood and rowdy neighbors.

(Oh, and just kidding Owain ;) ).

Heh, no prob, Sarek :)

On the other hand, this is exactly why there are nudist resorts; to keep out people with different intentions and to keep a degree of privacy without fear of people bothering them. So maybe that's what the town needs as it becomes of a popular spot.

Imposing a stricter requirement on who can move into the area is ideal but it also means passing laws or ordinances and going through all kinds of legalese to make sure no one can sue for being unfairly discriminated against. They should at least threaten that and start making these people rethink their habits by going through with it if they keep up.

Well, the town itself doesn't necessarily have to become a resort town, just that they could build a resort in the town for this purpose, and those that are nudists don't have to be bothered by the swingers. Resorts like these are like clubs and have rules of their own that people have to abide to, otherwise they get kicked out. This way, nobody can sue for being discriminated against as they have a firm set of rules put in place to keep out perverts. Resorts like these are all over the place. They're not uncommon.

Basically, a place for nudists to just go about their business while the rest of the town goes about theirs. It's a win/win in my book. They don't have to impose anything on anyone getting into the area in this case and the nudists get to live happily ever after.
