Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

@EnderAKH The funniest part of all of that is the "Midnight's Edge sponsoring". Yeah, that's how you add credibility to your campaign. :guffaw:

And let's not overlook the Terry Matalas worship.

With apologies to @Nerys Myk, who really does need to make this his signature;

"Hail Terry, full of grace, the Bird is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst writers, and blessed is the fruit of thy pen, Legacy.
Holy Terry, Savior of Trek."

:rommie:

Are you kidding right now? "Silly/ridiculous writing campaigns" brought Trek back in the form of TMP (originally Phase II) in the 70's and has been going (relatively) strong ever since with periodic ebbs and flows. New content is always either being shown or in some stage of production.

None of it would have happened without it. Unless you're okay with never having had any kind of Trek after TOS? If that's the case, then why are you on this forum making such patently absurd statements, as surely you never wanted TrekBBS to exist either, so we could have discussions about it?

Seriously, man, sometimes I see these posts from you and I wonder WTF? Where does this shit come from?

Unless this is another one of your "jokes"?

Quick reminder - Jokes really need to make some attempt at humor.
Sarcasm.

Given I have a campaign linked in my signature for Legacy I felt it was apparent.

Apologies for any confusion. :(

Inserting self deprecating joke:

Grif: No dude, jokes are funny.

I think perhaps folks may be confusing Bjo Trimble and her huge mail-in efforts to get the Third Season of TOS produced with the minimal fan outcry for TMP.

Phase II Trek and then TMP came about more because Paramount saw the huge success of STAR WARS, than any fan derived effort.

I agree that's possible. I recall all the different conversations over fan writing campaigns over the years.

I think that if a fan is passionate about a specific project or aspect of Trek then it should be made known. Be it letter writing, email, online campaign or petition. As Nimoy said in ST 09 BTS, "God love em; the fans are great."

Fan participation in the franchise makes it more fun no matter the differences of opinions. I might not be fully wanting a Legacy series but I won't deny that many fans are interested in it. Star Trek Continues and Phase 2 showed a great interest by the fan community in the TOS era.

We might disagree on the execution but I would never deny fan interest as a real phenomenon.

I will make jokes about it.

Here's a thought, instead of embarrassing attempts at campaigns, people just don't watch the shows, don't pay for Paramount+ and vote for the future of Trek that way?

Not watch pirate versions like specials on Facebook and Twitter like to brag about, but just do something else with your life. Only then will the Star Trek they don't like, which has been going for many years now, go away.

It's been 7 years since Paramount+ ruined Trek.
It's been 15 years since JJ Abrams ruined Trek.
It's been 24 years since Enterprise ruined Trek.

The appropriateness of Family Guy and American Dad to kid-friendly consumption could also definitely be debated.

Shows like Hazbin Hotel make me want to gag. I'm not a thumper by any means, but that fucking thing is objectively satanic. Definitely not a simple "cartoon".

And the Section 31 movie is set to ruin Trek come this January.

You're making it sound like haters have been the ones keeping Star Trek alive for the last 24 years just because they can't give up on it and they'll keep watching every season of everything that comes out regardless.

Well, except for poor Enterprise.

Probably a "perfect storm" of events. People had been trying to get a new film or TV show of Star Trek going since the 60s. The show's popularity in syndication and mail from fans did not go unnoticed. By the time things got sorted, Star Wars happened which pushed Trek from TV to the theater.

There have been times when this place hasn't been very far off from mimicking that particular piece of entertainment.
Through the years, many of the denizens of the Trek BBS have been more than Hellish.
(not excluding myself, but my halo slipped long before coming here)

Well, it is kind of true.
I finally read an article that helped me understand this somewhat; a Star Wars fan discussed why they kept trying out Star Wars even though they really had soured expectations post PT, and found a comment by Stephen King. Here's the quote:
Once King wrote about why he kept going to horror movies. He knew that almost every one of them was going to suck. Every time he walked into the theater he knew the movie would not only be a disappointment but a predictable, boring disappointment. So why did he keep going in? Why not just say, “Bah!”, wave his hands, and walk away?

The answer, he wrote, is that a handful of times in his life he had been scared witless by a good horror movie, and that even though such movies only seemed to come along once or twice a decade, he kept plunking down his eight bucks (did I mention that this column was written several years ago?) and getting his hopes up, on the off chance that this movie would be one of the handful that could really channel the magic.
Link here.

Hope apparently drives fans to keep coming back, again, and again, and develop that drive for a spark that first brought them in. Call me easy to please, but that spark exists in different ways, and if Trek does a sitcom to go off of in to new territory I welcome it to try.

Its kinda true.

Although I don't feel like upcoming Trek projects are for me, I'm still very ready to be surprised, as with Prodigy.

That was a lesson well learnt.
