In terms of quality? Absolutely. Without a doubt. There hasn't been a bad episode of Strange New Worlds, in my opinion. Its batting average in 1.000.

I won't argue that. (Much) The production (design at least)of the show is Top Notch. Never had any issues with the looks of the show. Except the scaling of the Enterprise as well as the turbolift interior (short treks) The effects, costumes, sets are all top notch.

We will see what kind of comedy they are talking. There are different levels. If its some type of ongoing slapstick or surrealism I don't think it's going to work. If its on the level of say a show like Farscape. Which mixed some comedy and blended it all in a very engaging show. Or maybe some of the more appealing comedy episodes of DS9. Then maybe. But I'm not thinking they are going that way. I'm thinking they are going to take the ridiculousness of Lower Decks and move it into the live action prime franchise. They are calling this an outright comedy. So I'm going to expect the worst at this point.

Yeah I know and I don't particularly like it. But that is exactly why I brought it up. I just know Trek will go done that road eventually. If they do it tastefully like House of Cards, where it is used for narrative purposes I would be good with it. But it they go down the road of self awareness that they are a TV show and go and freaking walk into paramount studios. I will be completely done with current trek.

I've never watched either one. And I did my level best to avoid Seinfeld. (And the one time I was exposed to Curb Your Enthusiasm, I had absolutely no enthusiasm to curb. Nor much for Modern Family.) But I thought The Goldbergs was cute. And Big Bang Theory. And I love both the original Night Court, and the "Next Generation" version, along with Barney Miller. And Get Smart.

And more to the point, I like LD, and the various comedy episodes of TOS, TAS, and SNW, so why wouldn't I like a ST live action comedy?

What about a character study of Seven of Nine? This woman ate, slept, and breathed evil for eighteen years.

How does it impact her as a Captain? She's unlike any other Captain Enterprise has ever had. She's far more attuned to evil than any of Enterprise's previous Captains.

Seven has a long history of doing VERY bad things. She's now trying to go straight. She's worried about her legacy. She wants to be remembered as being something other than a bloodthirsty killer.

In other words, fans fell in love with SNW. The fell in love with the idea of Legacy.

Way to generalize there, pal.

You act as if it's a bad thing. (Gilligan's Island in space? See Star Trek: Voyager.) Seven of Nine was originally conceived as Trek's answer to Xena (which was still the rage back in 1998 when she first debuted).

Voyager would go on to become a seminal show in the franchise. It was so influential, it was given a follow-up in Star Trek: Prodigy.

Like in She-Hulk? That was great. Totally in line with the character and the comics that inspired the show. Really only works with that character. So it's unlikely to appear in SNW or any other Trek show,
OTOH, if the "Tawny Newsome Show" takes it's inspiration from the Office or Parks and Rec the crew shooting the "documentary" are part cast. (if off screen) But they are just as fictional as Michael Scott or Leslie Knope. Worked well

Kinda late to this party, but If I'm not mistaken, wasn't this new series described as an "action-comedy?" Even though The Office was used as a comparison, I'm inclined to think it'll actually be less of a sitcom and more like an action show with shenanigans. Maybe it'll actually be closer in tone to Guardians of the Galaxy, the Bad Boy films, or even The Suicide Squad. Lower Decks was undeniably an action comedy with an emphasis on comedy, but I don't think Paramount would cancel it just to replace it with something similar.

Given that Newsome is writing for Starfleet Academy, I'm willing to give her and her cohorts the benefit of the doubt that they came up with something that could be cool rather than totally silly. Time will tell...

In my case I became interested in the idea of "The Captain Pike show", with absolutely no preconceived concept of what it would be about. I guessed it would involve young Spock and Pike on the Enterprise, but beyond that, nothing was written in stone. Rebecca Romjin could've run a mile from the idea, but I'm glad she didn't. Goldsman's "Let's just do Star Trek" came way later.

Its the same with this proposed Picard follow up. Everything is up for grabs and nothing we've been told might happen could actually happen. I'll say that Jeri Ryan will likely be involved as the whole thing would fall apart without her. Speleers and Hurd are a little less likely in my opinion, but we'll see.

One show that comes to mind is "Powerless" that was a sitcom set in the DC Universe featuring characters working at Wayne Security and reaction to the superhero stuff happening around them. Not a great show, but it had it's moment. And speaking of comics, the "Bwahaha" era of Justice League showed you can mix humor and action-adventure successfully.

I know it was in the comics. But it was stupid there and should not have been so dumb in the TV show. It pretty much killed the MCU for me. The whole MCU is controlled by some stupid robot named Kevin and Daredevil drops out of the sky confused. Just do dumb. How do we go from the Extremely brutal realism of something like punisher to the extremely silly TV show like She-Hulk?? It was a flat out surreal comedy. We are talking green acres type comedy here .. ...not a good mix imo..

Anyhow General audiences who never read the comics are already staring to flee the ever more silly MCU content.

I fear this is what will happen to Star Trek.
