To be fair, although it wasnt an 100% exact recreation of the conference room, it was pretty close. The table and window-wall were the exact same used during the series (although had been redressed for use on the Enterprise-E), and the opposite wall (which replaced the "wall of ships" in later TNG) looked pretty much spot on too. The only major differences were the doors (which looked like standard Enterprise-D doors rather than the unique dark-coloured ones they should have been) and the rather odd decorative items that were hanging from the walls.
For all its problems, I thought the recreation of the Enterprise-D was one of the well done parts of TATV, though I still agree that it should have been set around the time of Nemesis or well after it on the Titan, given the changes in appearance of Frakes and Sirtis.
What REALLY would have good in TATV is for a TNG situation to be relevant to anything on ENT, which it was not.
How exactly watching the crew of NX-01 related to Riker's situation in "Pegasus" is beyond me.

Well, I've been reading the entries here: There isn't any way to actually polish this turd, but it could have been fixed with major surgery.
It's post-Nemesis. Riker and Troi are aboard a transport en route to Titan (this addresses TPTB not wanting to depict Titan in case they ever decide to do a movie). Riker is standing at a window when Troi enters.
RIKER: It's so strange. I never imagined the Romulan Neutral Zone would be gone in my lifetime.
TROI: Everybody is talking about it in the lounge. It's happening so fast, some are afraid.
RIKER: Well, it's been there for 200 years. (he pauses) You want to hear something funny? It was negotiated not far from here.
TROI: Out here? How did that happen?
RIKER: Well, let's get a drink and I'll tell you. It's a helluva a story...

Enterprise is assigned to transport high-level envoys who will negotiate the end of the Romulan Wars. The NX-01 is accompanied by the Aenari, commanded by Shran, and Columbia, commanded by Erika with Malcolm Reed as first officer (he is also working undercover for S31). The Romulans have refused to agree to a truce until negotiations actually begin, so the ships have had to battle their way to the Kretassan homeworld, which remained neutral during the war and has agreed to host the talks.
There are Romulans who don't want peace. They consider the praetor's decision to negotiate to be treason. An ambitious senator conspires with several officers to assassinate the praetor and make it appear the humans are responsible. He will then seize power and continue the war to the last.
The conspirators have acquired a torpedo from an Earth ship and plan to use it against the praetor's ship. The weapons signature will be traced to the humans. Reed learns of the plot. As the assassination attempt plays out, Trip takes a shuttlepod and flies into the path of the torpedo, sacrificing himself to save the peace mission.
Sometimes I wonder if Peter Griffin and Quagmire couldn't have come up with a better finale. Giggity-giggity-UGH.

I ask because despite Trip's dramatic growth as a character throughout seasons 3 and 4, he did regress quite a bit in your TATV script, to the point that I actually had to wonder if you watched Enterprise at all after "Bounty."

Trip's spastic suicide-by-idiocy in "TATV" was not in character...not after four whole seasons and almost a hundred episodes. No way.
That was just bad writing to try to give Trip a halfway exciting(fail!)death in an abbreviated one-hour finale and get the story wrapped up by the time the end credits rolled.

How about if the finale had Kirk and Spock, post-TUC, pre-GEN?
It could have had Carol Channing in a neglige and hooker pumps and would have been more edifying.

After all Reed's busted attempts at self-sacrifice (Minefield, Shuttlepod One, etc.), why not use him? I loved Reed, but if they absolutely had to knock someone off, it would have been more in character for someone like him to give his life for the Captain. Then he would have had that whole heroics thing going for him that they left hanging in S1/S2

Good point. Malcolm had less development and was technically a little more expendable. He could have even died on an assignment for Secton 31 back in San Francisco...maybe Shran and his ex-partners were involved in something to do with a secret Romulan project from the war.
I do think that Reed would have been better. But really, there was no need for a death, especially in such a half-assed manner. It would have been great to see a finale with closure.
