TAS: pros & cons....

Oh, I'd forgotten those. My bad.

Filmation was known for some layering/placement issues due to how fast they churned that stuff out. It's pretty evident on He-Man and She-Ra in a few places too.

Or just the oddly drawn stuff to kinda shoehorn the characters into the right positions.

Filmation did a lot of good, though. I've had the opportunity to listen in on a few Q&A's with Lou Scheimer and a more passionate caring about doing at least interesting work sorta guy you couldn't possibly find anywhere else.

That's the truth. It was quite a company, and quite prolific. I find their 60s 'Superman' and 'Aquaman' cartoons quite enjoyable. It's interesting that they even produced that live action stuff for a while in the 70s. 'Shazam' anyone? God what a bad show.

Pros:

-Aliens that looked alien.
-More aliens on the ship
-Women not being helpless twits
-Sequels to beloved eps like the Mudd episode.
-Most of the actors back voicing their characters.

Cons:

-That gawdawful music. Wish we could had regular TOS music.
-Some kiddie stuff. (The Infinite Vulcan, for one.)
-Whiny-Spock in the ep when Spock was a kid (which name escapes me at this late hour.) His voice was extremely annoying. I wanted to slap him.
-Did I mention the sucky music?

Pro: It's good.

Con: It's short.

I second this concise answer... Easily could of been an hour and wished there were additional seasons...but I'm happy for it's existense.

It was also a great way to introduce my nephews to the world of Star Trek.

'Yesteryear' by the great D.C. Fontana. That was a very annoying child-Spock voice. At least Mark Lenard was in it. (But not Jane Wyatt... :()

Pros:

M'Ress

Cons:

Not enough M'Ress :(

(Actually, there was only one shot where she looked closest to her original character design sheet, when she points and tell Kirk to look behind at the turbo-lift door in "The Practical Joker". All other shots made her look like a chipmunk with her cheeks (facial cheeks, guys, facial cheeks  ) packed tight.)

Sincerely,

Bill

Ah! I thought I'd find it at TrekCore. This is the drawing I consider the best of M'Ress:

Yeah, I always liked that one, too. I even made an avatar once for the TOS contest using that very sequence.

Hehe, that's awesome. :D

I love when Scotty instantly blames M'Ress and Arex for sabotaging the food slot in 'The Practical Joker.'

Profiling! :scream:

Con: Life Support Belts
Really? I found them to be a very ingenious idea. It seemed like a natural progression given a future where force fields are everyday business.

I agree, quite ingenious. There must be some kind of air supply/thermal regulator built into the belt as well as the forcefield. (One might wonder if the belt carries a compressed oxygen-nitrogen supply equal to the amount to fill the space around the suit plus the average humanoid lung content, then is able to recycle that air.)

I'm sure there is a maximum safe threshold for how long one can be used and there might be long-term or isolated mission types where you'd definitely want to wear a more conventional suit, but I think it was a clever dramatic innovation that might have done wonders if applied to the later series in tandem with the conventional spacesuits where applicable.

Ingenius idea, yes, if used for defense (i.e. Dune) or even as a sterile field to protect against infection, but I couldn't get past the question of "how do they get air?". I guess my imagination just wasn't up to it.

I just thought of another PRO: more tribbles! :guffaw:

I enjoy the episodes, and will even go so far as to say I dislike the ADF "explanations".

As for canon status, I consider them so. Stuff like the reverse aging and shrinking have been tackled in the live-action series as well, so just roll with it.

I may have to rephrase that earlier post to read, "This drawing I consider the best of M'Ress' shots from the cartoon," because earlier today I stumbled across this fantastic portrait created by one Ms. Angela West.

West's is amazingly "on model" but she has added a level of detail that makes M'Ress seem far more "real".

Here's a link to her homepage as I suspect she'd like people to explore her entire site and not just focus upon one image:

Interesting story about that young actor. They taped his audition, him reading the script COLD, and used it. They REALLY made TAS on the cheap. Read the interview here...http://www.startrekanimated.com/tas_billy_simpson.html
