Tarantino and Abrams to Do Next Trek Movie

How can it automatically be a good thing?
I agree that it depends but it also demonstrates that Paramount is willing to put money in to the film as well. Which, is mixed bag, I'll grant, but it's nice to see that kind of willingness to spend as well.

I think it's an intention to go after the adult crowd. Let's face it, star wars has the sci fi action crowd sewn up for the foreseeable few years.

Would people be excited for another lin directed movie? They weren't for the last one. Abrams return may garner interest but that's not going to happen. Who else could be in the pipeline to revive things? QT may not be people's first choice for another trek movie, but it's a bold move if it happens.

As long as the source material is respected, I'm all for it.

Everybody seems to be asking whether or not QT is a good fit for the Trek franchise.
I think it shows just how shaky the franchise is and how badly it has been handled if it cannot “survive” a QT directed movie.

The constraints placed upon anyone daring to open “the toybox” while paradoxically the willingness to constantly reduce the characters to almost caricatures.(cringeworthy ‘comedic’ sequences and blatant dumbing down ).

I haven't seen anyone say the franchise couldn't survive a tarantino movie. Just because people would rather see something that fits the franchise doesn't mean the whole thing will come crashing down from one movie that doesn't.

If fitting the franchise means another suck-fest like ‘Beyond’,I think it deserves to come crashing down.

Don't know if I will like trek having the tarantino treatment, some of his movies r way over the top, will we see picard and kirk tying to outdo each other was sleeping with as many alien babes they can, think it be the end of star trek if paramount let tarantino the keys to the enterprise,it b all over for star trek.

If what she said is all true I have zero respect for this guy and he should stay away from trek.
It is hard enough, already, for me to reconcile his genre and style with trek and trust him not make it all a mess, but if her story is true he is insane.

Given the current political climate, I'm pretty confident in saying Tarantino's days are numbered.
If you're talking about Tarantino's defense if Weinstein then there'd be a lot more people ahead of Tarantino going down.
Its pretty shocking though. I thought Weinstein wouldn't have dared touch someone like Thurman. Absolutely disgusting and that Tarantino dismissed it...

As to Tarantino putting Thurman's life in danger he and Miramax should be sued to learn not to pull that nonsense again. Withholding the tape of the incident - how did they get away with that? But not even a real apology. I suppose if he'd done that he would be even more in danger of being sued successfully.

Edit - Just to say its terrible when anyone is sexually assaulted not just famous actors/actresses. Its just more shocking when you think someone that famous isn't protected.

Don’t mean to double post, but how do you edit?
I can't recall the exact numbers off the top of my head, but you'll probably need more posts and more time in. When you've reached that level, the Edit button will appear in the line at the bottom of your posts:

i wouldn't hold my breath for that and Paramount kicking him out of the project. They need to have an integrity I suspect few studios have.

My fear is that the only ones who will lose anything here are, ironically, women, Zoe Saldana and Uhura fans, and those who see her as the little representation they have in this trek. Zoe will be probably pushed to say no working with him to support Uma etc. I could see her and other actresses not wanting to work with him and I wouldn't blame her but at the same time, this wouldn't be her saying no to a new Tarantino original movie to boycott him. She'd give up the franchise she already is part of and cares about because the dude hired for one movie is trash, so she'd essentially only end up boycotting herself and the character and fans of this trek and her. People like Tarantino would be winning all the more.

Social media is all over the QT/Thurman crash and his association with Weinstein and even his movie back catalogue of violence/sadist/fetish stuff being questioned now so in this current climate it could quite possibly end Tarantinos career, with the already controversial Manson movie and the Trek movie scrapped :(

He isn't the only director and frankly, he isn't the best trek can get.
They could even still use his story idea anyway.

Anyway, I still doubt he'll face any consequence on the long run.

Tarantino isn't the first Director to push actors too far into doing their own stunts, or turn a blind eye to unsafe situations and not heed warnings about unsavoury characters. As far as dangers you can mitigate against, there are people who's job it is to ensure stunts work to plan and they'll have sat in that car and done that exact same sequence themselves personally. Surely QT trusted them, and did whatever he did to provoke Thurman to act in a certain way in the scene. Yes, I can believe there are some Directors who'll behave like tyrants purposely to get a response from an actor that probably wouldn't ordinarily be capable of delivering that intense. It's a weird schizophrenic business is show.

Unless Tarantino is proven to be in too deep, and has committed actual crimes, I'm still very interested in him contributing to Star Trek. God knows Gene Roddenberry was no angel, but what he created has risen above stories about him having slept with virtually every actress to guest star in TOS.

Integrity? How about fear? Studios fear the backlash, and conclusive proof is no longer necessary in this day and age. The fear of loss of revenue and public condemnation seem to be enough.
