A shopping centre in China's Hebei province is opening a car park for women only.
Managers at the Wanxiang Tiancheng shopping centre believe that collisions would be greatly reduced if their car park accommodated what they diplomatically describe as women's "different sense of distance".
So the new women-only car park has spaces that are one metre wider than normal and three lights in each lot to improve visibility.
It will also be staffed by female parking guides, presumably deemed to be well-tuned to women's special needs to direct drivers when they park their vehicles.
Just to make things even more jolly for its women visitors, the car park is painted in bright pinks and purples and decorated with cartoon figures on the walls.

Now I don't drive but I would like the women here to tell me if they feel they need an extra metre than men to park.
 
I would say it's the opposite actually, as women seem to drive smaller cars more often and therefore can fit in the spaces better. I can't count how many times I have seen young men pull up in their shiny black SUVs with oversized monster tires with crappy music blaring and decide that they need at least 3 spots to park.

I think spaces in general should be wider. Then again I like cars with long doors.

Have you ever driven a pre-BMW Mini? I don't think there's any car that comes even close to being as much fun. ;)
 
I don't think it's fair to give only women parking spaces with cartoon figures on the walls. That sounds neat!
 
Oh, to live in a land that hasn't been tarnished by the debacle which is political correctness!
 
That's hilarious. :rommie: I wonder if they'll rearrange the stores so that chick stuff like makeup and jewelry will be near the Girly Garage and guy stuff like tools and video games will be near the Manly Lot. :hugegrin:
 
Well I am not a woman, but I know in the United States the parking spaces need to be wider. In fact most parking lots seem to have been laid out by an insane squirrel on drugs.

With all of that said, yes women do park very badly and tend to drive worse than men. Men just generally drive like jerks with fits of road rage. I have seen many a woman trying to learn to parallel park at the local DMV office. I had a friend not to long ago who tried to teach his wife how to drive after years are trying to convince her. I believe he finally gave up. Previously he had taught every person in his immediate family how to drive.

What would really help with parking would be to actually remove the cell phone from their ear. It would make a world of difference. My wife and every woman I know complain about women drivers more than any man I know. It makes them mad that they give them such a bad rep. I didn't know the problem was international though. :guffaw:

Where I live they do take 3 spaces to park. A generation ago there were mandated compact spaces to encourage smaller cars. Only nobody enforces the restrictions so the super trucks and SUVs pull into the compact spaces. The more courteous drivers take only two spaces. Which at least leaves room on both sides rather then try to take one which blocks three.
 
Wow.

I actually wouldn't mind spaces closer to the store for the reason of safety. I don't know, i'm sort of paranoid these days when i am by myself in a parking lot in the dark.
 
If you can't get your car into a standard parking space without hitting another car, you really have no business driving a car at all. :vulcan:

I'd feel bad for that one guy who cant find space in the Manly Lot during busy days & he has to park in the Girly Garage. :lol:
 
^^ Or his wife makes him park there. And hold her pocket book while she shops. :rommie:
