Tales Of The Federation - Akiva Goldsman wants anthology series with classic characters

No. Stop the memory berrys and do something new..
I'm all for going back for like a movie or something but to just check in on EVERYBODY just because
. no.

This sounds like a great idea! I wouldn't even want them to focus specifically on characters we have seen before. We could have Star Trek stories featuring any characters from anywhere in the entire timeline. Yes, the production design would certainly be expensive, but they don't seem to have any problem these days with throwing money at the new streaming shows.

This would be a wonderful way to flesh out the unseen parts of the Star Trek universe. I hope it happens!

According to the bio from "In a Mirror, Darkly" he stopped being the Enterprise's CO in 2160 and became Ambassador to Andoria in 2169, so even if they'd want to do a post-captaincy retired Archer story, that does not have him be the president, without ignoring a barely legible piece of background art they could probably do it.
That would be the best idea.

I'd prefer a mix of old and new characters, old and new ideas. One story's about Picard on the Stargazer, the next's about, I dunno, a tough shift at a Starfleet medical station. Or the origin of the Borg! Just show what happened on that Borg homeworld, hundreds of years before the Federation existed, without a single human character ever appearing. They can throw Seven in as a narrator if they really have to.

I would love this. They could jump around the timeline. Maybe do a mix of live action and animated shows. Only thing I don't like is the title. I would want to see stories beyond the scope of the Federation.

Like all of 3rd generation Star Trek, it doesn’t matter what was established before. Today’s Trek producers and writers are just going to do what they want. So if it was established earlier that Archer went out into space, but nuTrek says he’s on Earth, he’s on Earth.

I personally think it’s a bad idea to bring back old characters just to show ‘what they’re doing now.’ Sometimes things like that should just be left to the viewers’ imagination. I for one am certainly not happy to have been told what Jean-Luc Picard is ‘doing now.’

That's utter bullocks, and anyone even somewhat familiar with Trek knows that every single iteration of Trek has been willing to change material if it suited what they were currently working on. This is not nor has it ever been just a "3rd generation" Star Trek thing.

Lord.

Wrong. Every Trek after TOS from the 2nd generation has shown a reverence for TOS. 3rd generation Trek has swept it under the rug.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I've been hoping for an anthology series since back when we were still debating what "Series V" was going to be.

On the other hand, the only less encouraging start for a Trek pitch than "Akiva Goldsman wants" is "J. J. Abrams wants".

I like the idea of an anthology series for many reasons but the main one is giving new (and/or) prominent writers alike who won't/can't commit to a full series a chance to leave their mark on the universe. In the best case scenario, ten 35-45 minute Calypsos would be amazing.

I could live with this. I'm not much of a fan of the Kurtzman/Goldsman shows so far, but one virtue of Paramount generating so many different series these days is that each new show isn't a single basket holding all the eggs.

This would be great, but I'm just not convinced CBS would be willing to do this, due to the budgetary issues related. Every single episode would more-or-less require the creation of new sets, new props, new costumes, etc.. There's ways to make it cheaper (like two characters just talking in a shuttlecraft) but it will get boring if too many of the episodes are set up like this.

Of course, the new CGI systems used on Discovery make this easier, but there's still a lot of work involved, since you'd need to actually render each of the environments.

I can almost guarantee that anyone they bring back to show "where are they now?" will be some contrived BS that won't live up to the audience's expectations of that character. If this even happens at all.
