I think the two stories will contrast each other. Morgan stays with the empire, and I imagine in Barris last story she will turn on the Empire and get killed.
Tales of the Jedi was similar, Ahsoka and Dooku both saw flaws in the Jedi but they both went about handling it in different ways

Great trailer. This looks fantastic.
I'm still a little unclear whether this is actually the "second season" of 'Tales of the Jedi', or it's own thing. The announcement certainly gives one the impression that it's the former, but seems to stop short of saying it outright. I'm going to assume that's what this is for the time being. I'm just curious if this is the start of a whole anthology "Tales of..." show and we'll get a different season title each time, like say for example: 'Tales of the Sith', 'Tales of the Syndicates/Underworld/Bounty Hunters', 'Tales of Mandalore', 'Tales of The New Republic', and we'll eventually circle back to 'Jedi'? Or is this just two shows running in tandem? Time will tell.

Anyway, here's some random notes and a rough breakdown: -
- Opening shot of three Star Destroyers over what looks like the planet Corvus, back when it still had a living forest, and Morgan Ellsworth with her beskar spear, meeting with Thrawn for apparently the first time. Thrawn’s rank plaque makes him an Admiral. Going by the ‘Thrawn’ novel, this would place the event sometime between 9-2ish years before the OT, since he was promoted from Commodore to Admiral right after Botajef, and again to Grand Admiral right before he showed up in 'Rebels' season 3.
- “. . .all, but destroyed“? Are there other Nightsister survivors beyond what we know of? So far I think it’s just Merrin and I think an unnamed character in one of the short story anthologies. Seems unlikely Elsbeth would have knowingly left Merrin alone, and for her part, Merrin seems to think she alone survived. Plus IIRC, some have presumed that the short story refers to Morgan herself.
- The burning forest seems to be a recurring motif. First Dathomir, now here on what looks like Corvus again. Going by the wreckage; likely, the aftermath of the New Republic shuttle explosion glimpsed later in the trailer. Also those troops with the flamethrowers are clearly the same mercenary forces we’ve seen her use in the live action shows.
- The shot of Elsbeth collapsing onto her knees with two figures. Likely, the “Mountain Clan Matrons” as indicated in the closed captions. It’ll be nice to see more of Dathomirian culture beyond just that one exiled Nightsister clan!
- “My anger gives me strength“ The Sith holocron from Malachor, said (almost) the same thing to Ezra. Is this just another instance of Star Wars echoing the same line across different stories (probably!), or could this indicate that “The Presence” was a Nightsister turned Sith? She was voiced by Nika Futterman! By no means proof of anything, but a fun idea at least.

- Nice shot of the Scythe from Kenobi approaching Nur. One assumes this is Barriss being transported from Coruscant?
- Fourth sister with Coruscant Guard Shocktrooper in Barriss’ cell. Guess the theory that she remained imprisoned during Order-66 is holding true. Sidious must have marked her down as an exception, as seen with the other Inquisitorious candidates in the ‘Rise of the Red Blades’ novel.
- Barriss looks the same age she did in the Clone Wars, compared to later shots where she seems aged up, like Ahsoka’s model was (the proportions of the eyes & head is what gives it away.) Some of this must be either shortly after, or even before Order 66.
- Are these the first Purge Troopers, the ES Trooper from Bad Batch, or are both one and the same? Either way the armour looks identical to the latter.
- Interesting to see The Grand Inquisitor in the ‘Clone Wars’ style. Still way skinnier the live action, and while his voice does sound a little different; that’s still clearly Jason Isaacs back in the role!
- This dynamic has some interesting implications; that is assuming they’re following through on the idea that the GI was one of the Jedi Temple Guards present for Ahsoka’s trial and Barriss’ confession. Especially that second part since it may imply that her tirade helped sway him towards the dark side.
- Obviously the exact same Calodan compound seen in ‘The Mandalorian’. Looks like a New Republic diplomatic delegation. Interestingly the insignia worn by the ambassador almost looks like the Resistance rank badges from the ST (but not quite!)
- Fun to see the CSS-1 showing up in the post-OT era (until Morgan blew it up, anyway!) I like when they make an effort to break down some of the percived walls between the "eras".
- I'm assuming giverm her age and the similar clan markings that this Nightsister facing down Grevious is Morgan's mother? That or some kind of nightmare/vision of Morgan herself. Either way we see teenage Morgan using those same curved blades elsewhere.
- A shot of Barriss running towards the Fourth Sister, who appears to be fighting an unknown Jedi? So we’ll at least get to see her out as an actual Inquisitor; it won’t just be about her training. One assumes this is from her third episode?
- That bright blue explosion is clearly coming from a person, but it doesn’t look like Nightsister magic. Mountain clan magic perhaps? They were light side users in ‘Legends’ after all, so that may track? Is this how Morgan survived? It would be interesting if she had a choice to follow the path of light, but instead chose anger and vengance, just like Barriss.
- Of course, the final test of an Inquisitor would have to be a battle to the death. Anyone else getting vaguly Tron vibes from that arena though? Just me? OK. I guess that was a bit of a stretch . . .
- Fourth Sister, Barriss, Marrok and the Inquisitor from TotJ (jury is still out on the whole “Sixth Brother” issue last time I checked.) That obviously places this event before the latter’s run-in with Ahsoka, which takes place 1-2 years after the war’s end. No surprise there, but it does mean Barriss completed her (re)training within that timeframe.
- Marrok presence has some interesting possibilities as now this character connects both Morgan and Barriss's stories together. Is it possible We'll see the two meet in the final episode?
- OK. This one has me stumped. Who could that possibly be? Tall cloaked cyborg looking person dressed in all black and noticeably wheezing breath, that everyone seems afraid of? What an incredible and utterly unsolvable mystery this is!
I don't see how. Very few other people figured that one out.
In the TCW style? Yup. Chronologically? Nope. That'd be 'Jedi: Fallen Order'. That scene as noted above has to have happened about a decade or more after the Clone Wars.
That doesn't seem consistent with what we saw in Rebels; she appeared to go willingly into an execution chamber . . . though Barriss being in the room when that recording was taken could easily account for Luminara's downcast, defeated demeanour (as if everything else that had happened wasn't already sufficient!)

These episodes would have probably been written around 3 years ago. That's usually the lead time on these animated series based on concept art dates.
I'm guessing Filoni came up with Morgan's back story the same time he was writing the Mando Season 2 episode with her.
Morgan being a Dathomir Witch was actually mentioned by one of the Mando season 2 makeup artists on Instagram before we learned about it in Ahsoka. So there is proof that the idea existed way back then.

What's interesting is Filoni's wife, E. Anne Convery, wrote a story about the Mountain Clan for the 'The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark' anthology.

When it comes to the hardware especially, they've been moving further and further away from the stylised look of early TCW and towards all but just straight up using ILM's assets as time passes. The character models have also been noticeably sliding away from that original "Genndy Tartakovsky meets Gerry Anderson" caricature style and more towards a much softer, less extreme style since TCW's final season.
Just compare the old Dooku asset to the ones built for TotJ. You'd hardly think they were meant to be the same person.
Or better yet, just look at every version of the Ahsoka assets in chronological order and you can very closely chart the style's evolution alongside her ageing (I think by the Siege of Mandalore arc, they had her up to version 'E'.)
I've watched all of The Mandalorian (multiple times) and all of Ashoka, and if you put a gun to my head I couldn't have told you who "Morgan Elsbeth" was without looking up the name online. Why waste time on a bland background character thats dead? Well, at least thats a few less episodes I'll have to watch. Hopefully the whole thing isn't about her.
I don't believe you. You'd have to be sleeping during the entire show to miss that, her name is said several times.
She was not a background character.
Half the episodes will be about her, and half the episodes will be about Barriss. So 3 episodes each.

I'm not saying that they never say Morgan Elsbeth's name in any of the episodes she appears in, but I definitely didn't remember it. She was a nothing character, who only existed as a plot device to go get Thrawn from the stupid place that Rebels left him. She is definitely a background character, completely unimportant except for the one thing she has to do to move the plot along, and anyone could have been put into her spot of the story.
All the woman does is get to Thrawn, spend a few episodes being insulted by him, then she dies to Ahsoka in a fight so unmemorable I actually forgot she had died until looking at her wookiepedia page. Just because she had lines in pretty much every episode doesn't means she wasn't a background character. Actually, I'm probably being too generous calling her a background character, because SW background characters are usually more interesting. Give me a Lobot or Dengar over a "Morgan Elsbeth" any day of the week.
It sucks that they are wasting three episodes on her, but Filoni has his favorites and so nothing else matters. At least the episodes with Barriss might be slightly interesting, I didn't know that she had survived to apparently become an Inquisitor.
No one did. The last time she appeared was in Clone Wars Season 5, 11 years ago.
She's getting 3 episodes? Hot damn, I might actually watch it.
