I can understand why they didn't use more recurring crew-members for VOY. Too much money to pay for all of them as time went on. Part of UPN and Paramount's plan for VOY was to make it pretty much on the cheap to make up for money lost by DS9.

But increased ratings would've meant increased revenue. And recurring characters add spice and complement the main cast if used well and some develop fandoms in their own right and not just in Trek.

For instance Zoe McClellan played the relatively minor character of Petty Officer Jennifer Coates in JAG and developed a fairly decent fan following as a result. And let's not forget Trevor Goddard as CDR Mick Brumby, he did the same thing...

It's a reward for those who invest time in the show which places a security against them ducking out at the 11th hour.

I don't just want a valentine once every 14 years after the corpse of star trek has been flogged till it's next reincarnation is bleeding out... I want a valentine every 5 bloody minutes. prove to me you know I'm watching and you care that I am watching. Give me a reason to care! give me a reason to watch adverts for McDonalds and Ford!

Of course not.

In my body where there should be a shame gland, there's a second awesome gland, true story.




But we're all guilty of dolling out our sponge like minds for the imprinting of by thought making copasetic Commercial Advertising usury in exchange a little free TV. It's like a cult but more parasitical. mutually parasitical is symbiotic but this is still us consenting to brainwashing in exhange for media... You could argue that being an advert viewer makes you more of a John than a prostitute, but I don't think so, since I was merely saying that I had to watch a lot of advertisements to see all the Voyager I medically needed to watch back during yore.

Of course I have no guilt (because of my third awesome gland) about how i've sidestepped advertising completely for the most part since I view most of my TV via my PC these days.
