Tal Celes and Other Lower Decks Characters

Racism used to be cool.

Witchhunting silt milk is boring.

2 people auditioned for a role that was profiled as Asian.

Root of a spoiled tree?

^ Not exactly, at least not according to Wiki, which says "Reeves's mother is English and his father is an American of Hawaiian and Chinese descent."

Besides...you don't have to be racist to not admire Reeves' acting. At least I hope to heck not. ;)

Yeah, he is the archetypical wooden actor, IMO. And it has nothing to do with his ancestry.

So is Keanu Reeves and my dislike of either actor has nothing to do with either of their ethnicities. I can't begin to imagine why someone labeled me a racist because I dislike those two actors.

Hating on white people for being white is also called racism... there are loads of ways to despise all the hues that make up Keno.

I'm Korean and read no dislike of Asian actors in your remarks. I like looking at Reeves and Wang very well but agree some of their performances are less than inspiring (love Reeves in Matrix though . . . ). I was often embarrassed for Wang because I knew he could do better. It comforts me to think he was holding back due to someone else's vision.

^ It was plain silly. I'd like to think Jaespol was just trying to be funny or to make a point or something. I think that's what that little Bolian "thumb's up" at the end (:bolian:) was trying to convey.

I think the OP and the folks discussing the original topic will like this link:
http://www.loony-archivist.com/lowerdecks/

It's an extensive collection of all the peripheral characters and extras. Pretty thorough too.

I've seen that site, it's very good and I rather like its portrayals of the lower decks characters. It's one of the fanfiction sites that either don't have terribly written fics about lower decks types, such as Tal Celes or ones that don't portray her as a lesbian.

I wonder why it seems so popular for fanfic authors to put Celes as a lesbian? I don't think she gives off that vibe...

I can understand why they didn't use more recurring crew-members for VOY. Too much money to pay for all of them as time went on. Part of UPN and Paramount's plan for VOY was to make it pretty much on the cheap to make up for money lost by DS9.

I keep hearing about how DS9 lost them so much money, but it's had 10 years of continuous home media sales, and then there was the bmp when people converted from vhs, and then the minor pique when Blueray assumed that it was taking over.

I read an article recently, which I do not completely beleive is true, about how Howard the Duck had finally grossed 100 million domestic with the camel tipping sale of a copy of the movie in a 99 cent or less store.

Did anyone collect TNG on Laser Disk?

Yeah, there was a shameful lack of secondary characters.
Even the ones they did have they never developed, Carey and Ensign Wildman disappeared for whole seasons.
And exactly why did Samantha Wildman disappear for 3 seasons or something and then come back in the past part of "Fury" as if it was some kind of nostalgia like she'd died or something? She was still on the ship! She could have been in any episode!

I'm glad they didn't kill Ensign Wildman off, but she like a lot of other secondary characters, could've used more development. Ah well, I guess that's what TrekLit and fanfiction are for.

I thought Joe Carey was the go-to-guy for a false sense of 'hey, we're in the past cuz here he is again...'
