Tal Celes and Other Lower Decks Characters

I always thought that VGR, being a smaller, isolated ship and all, had a greater potential for having recurring characters like this than even DS9. We could have easily met the entire 145+ crew in those seven years.

And yet, no.

Some of the "lower decks" characters like Ayala () were seen throughout the seven seasons and their names were mentioned several times. We definitely could have seen more of them though like Ayala. :D

"Sorry if I offended anyone but I get a little mortified when I see a Maquis terrorist and a Starfleet Officer kissing..but that's just me."

You could argue, however, it is the ultimate sign of the two crews working 'intimately' with one another...

You mean perhaps "Working it intimately on one another"?

Tal Celes is a female Jerry O'Connel. That has to make people stand back a little.

Celestial.

LOL.

I am slow.

I think that word was used to describe Stefanie Beecham's boobs.

"Celestial", not "slow".

How do you have slow boobs?

Do they have human milking competition/races?

Yeah, I always liked Ayala too. To his credit, he was there the whole way through and only got his first line in season six or seven. More like Ayala, and more for them to do. :)

I joke? Hell no.

He was married to the most beautiful woman on the station, and half the stories each season had him in a buddy flick with that dumb kid who hangs out in sick bay. And worst come to worst when you need to get a Klingon Drunk, who but an Irishman can match him shot for shot?

One of the original rejected titles for deep Space Nine was:"Miles in Space" but then they were afraid that the idiots would ask why nothing was measured in space miles. Half the job of being a Producer is rounding idiots off at the pass.

That was it, really. My only contribution to this thread thus far!

But I do agree that more lower decks stuff would have been great - at least as the B-plot.

O? What was it?

(i'm feeling all clucky like a mother waiting for babies first word.)

My mistake, Ayala's first line was actually 'Yeah' in 'Basics II.' :rommie:

He also had two lines on the comm in 'The Gift' which IIRC we didn't actually see him speak.

The major thing I was thinking of was in 'Renaissance Man' when he was at the helm:

Ayala: "There's some kind of pulse being directed at our transceiver array. It's coming from the Delta Flyer."
Harry: "Hail them."
Ayala: "No response."

Ayala gets to fly the ship when Harry is in command. :)

Don't laugh, Harry knows how to fly, but they have to replicate phone books form the 20th century to put on the pedals so he can reach the clutch and whatnot.

"Yeah". :) Oh, Momma so proud.

Harry does give the impression, poor boy, that he needs a booster chair when he goes to a restaurant. And he's not even particularly short.

Yes certainly I was talking about being short in presence than stature, since there's been some really dynamic short people throughout history, right?

Adolf Hitler was only 4 foot 8.

Blatant anti Nazi propaganda!

Hehe, but seriously Hitler was actually believed to be between 5'8 and 5'9.

I thought Garrett Wang's acting was terrible, about on par with Keanu Reaves in Much Ado About Nothing (if you look closely, you can see Kenneth Branagh looks like he wants to strangle him in several scenes). I'm no fan of Harry Kim, hence his near death in my fanfic.

But apparently, according to Wang, they were all coached, if they were playing human, to play it cold by Berman. Cuz they're perfect humans and all, and I suppose even Kim was no exception.

I can't help but think of Nimoy's coaching to Robin Curtis as Saavik in TSFS: 'Colder, Robin, colder.' :rommie:

Much Ado About Nothing is the only Keanu Reeves movie I've seen (which isn't that many - and yes, Matrix is one that I have seen, yuck) that I don't actually loathe. He's not great in it, but he's at least respectable enough that he doesn't ruin it for me. And he's not in it that much, thank goodness. And he has moments - though, alas, not quite enough moments - where he's a bit better than OK. Not a lot better, but a bit. Compared to the rest of the cast, he's chopped liver, of course.

I could tell Kenneth Branagh wanted to strangle Keanu Reeves throughout the movie. You could see just this air of irritation anytime their respective characters interacted...

So you think all Asian Americans/Amerasians are poor actors then?
That seems pretty racist to me, please explain...

No, I'm not racist, I'm Filipino myself. I just don't like Garrett Wang's wooden acting and frankly I find Harry gets on my nerves as a character. He actually reminds me of a co-worker of mine that grates on my nerves just as badly in the real world.

I do like the acting abilities of several Asian actors. Jackie Chan's a great actor/stuntman/producer in his own right.

:wtf: How anyone could have possibly read Dingo's comment as racist is beyond me.

Because he said Wang and Reeves were both bad actors.
Both also happen to be Asian (well one half Asian), therefore I suspected he was racist....
