Takei to Be on Upcoming Celebrity Apprentice

Interestingly, he is paired with Patty Duke in an instructional video for the Social Security Administration. I just applied for my benefits and was surprised to see the vid.

Maybe the residuals from Star Trek and Howard Stern might not pay as well as one might think.

^Well, we all know that Takei isn't an unintelligent man by any stretch of the imagination. So, the answer must be something else.

Oy, ok, whatever, Picard facepalm... I thought it was legendary by now or at least common knowledge that the Trek residuals and TV residuals of that time were little to none and that actors commonly take less high profile gigs for continuing income and to maintain a certainly celebrity status that will help ensure future jobs that pay.

No, I knew that. Which is why I originally posted what I did, the way I did. Offering it as a possible reason of why he might take such a gig.

George has made a nice "celebrity" name for himself over the last few years.

I hope he wins and wish all the best for the (surviving) original cast members, writers and crew.

When I think of their contributions to our little corner of the Alpha quadrant, it makes me sick to think of the money they made vs. the lame "reality stars" of today.

Takei is a pleasant enough guy who has gone the Shatner route by whoring himself out to anyone who will take him, as long as it is work (or, perhaps uncharitably, as long as it means TV exposure). Shatner did it in the 70s and 80s, before the resurgence of his persona in the popular conscience. Takei is too old for it to really take a foothold, but more power to him for staying out there swinging.
