Take Me Out to The Holosuite

Yeah it was great. It was fun to watch & brilliantly written (something that's not so obvious upon first viewing).

I'm pretty sure the cast had a great time doing this ep, a break from the usual routine...

"Take Me Out to the Holosuite" is also notable for being the first, and, so far, only, appearance of the Federation National Anthem.

Am I the only one who felt warm fuzzies on the inside when Sisko ordered the computer to make a crowd of cheering fans for nervous Rom?

Which, in my opinion, pretty much sucked. They should just have used "The Star Spangled Banner" and chalked it up to "tradition."

*shrugs* It wasn't amazing, but I don't think it was a particularly awful composition, either. But I don't think it would have been apropriate to use the US national anthem -- these guys were Federates, not Americans.

I love this episode. It never fails to make me laugh.

"Did I forget to wear my spots today?"

But I don't think it would have been appropriate to use the US national anthem ...

Sure it would.

Hell, they should be using it in Latin America and Japan today. We gave them baseball. They should do homage before every game.

Start playing the Scottish anthem before golf and I might see your point. Sports anthems normally reflect the nations involved in a game; and with American teams facing off against each other the US anthem makes sense; otherwise not really (hence the examples you cite).

Personally, I wish they'd used Jerry Goldsmith's theme from The Motion Picture as the national anthem for a little wink to the fans. The theme they did use was pretty dull stuff.

My point was that it's April 1st. ;)

[Foghorn Leghorn]"I say, I say, try to keep up, son."[/Foghorn Leghorn]

[Edit: To clarify: All joking aside ... I originally meant that I thought the Federation anthem so generic and uninspiring that "The Star Spangled Banner," somehow justified, would have been much better in its place. As to the comment re: baseball elsewhere in the world ... I wasn't at all serious.]

Hmm ... hmm.

That might have been very cool. :techman:

Ah, I see. My bad.

But yes, musically "The Star Spangled Banner" would have been far more satisfying. :)

*shrugs* Maybe the Federation National Anthem is really inspiring to Andorians?

To be fair, anthems are usually inspiring due their very nature as anthems. Back before Key wrote new patriotic American lyrics to an old British drinking song, the tune probably wasn't quite so inspiring. (Except, of course, to drunken Brits.)

Which qualifies as an in continuity, but hardly real world excuse for it to be boring as Hell to us humans. ;)

Come now. To Anacreon in Heaven is a bit more highbrow than that description gives it justice.
