I was wondering about that, so it's nice to get a solid answer.

I don't think I could handle the amount of work it must take to maintain bodies people like Chris Hemsworth, and Dwayne Johnson have.

It helps to have access to personal chefs, nutritionists, and trainers. And to get paid to get into that kind of shape for movies.

I have kind of wondered at times if they don't take other things to help bulk up too. I would like they would at least avoid the nastier steroids.

They all do, except Henry Cavill (supposedly). His Superman contract expressly forbids anything except melatonin & magnesium as sleep aids, because Superman doesn't do drugs.

Everyone else?

"Hey, you've been cast as a superhero. You have to gain 60 lbs of pure muscle in the next 6 weeks and in return we'll pay you $5 - $20 million and give you a franchise where you can easily make way, way more than that."

They're on an enhancement of some kind. HGH was just the big one a decade or so ago. Dunno if it still is. That's why they all look like they're made out of rectangles.

Pretty standard for that version of the character. Also, gotta say, I'm not a huge Thor fan but I would genuinely like to have that shirt.

Taika Waititi says Love and Thunder is the craziest thing he's ever done:

In an interview with Empire, Waititi commented on his next Thor film by saying, “It’s the craziest thing [he’s] ever done.” He goes on to explain that statement.

“I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done,” Waititi said. “If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense... It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”

The director dropped the serious tone and went with a sarcastic, comedic edge for Thor: Ragnarok. He mentions that Love and Thunder will be different. “It’s very different from Ragnarok,” Waititi said. “It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos.”
Sounds fantastic. I can't wait! :D

The Rock was a wrestler, and they were all 'roided up to the eyeballs. And now he's like 3 times bigger than he ever was when wrestling. Hmmm.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I saw how huge he'd gotten in a couple of pictures he posted on social media a while.

Johnson has admitted to using them in the past, and while he claims it was a mistake and hasn't since, there are a lot of rumours that that's just image control.

Speaking as regular lifter who has carried a bit of muscle and observed those who use "shortcuts" ... Hemsworth juicing is a no brainer. His diet and training would be rigorous as well, of course. Elevating and maintaining a physique like that is a full time job. They also have top tier trainers working with them every day.

But the sheer amount of mass he's carrying is more than just a gallon of milk and chicken breasts each day. A lot of naturals couldn't build that physique even if they spent their entire training careers pursuing it (genetics matter, obviously). But you don't just slim down after a role and build those sort of dimensions back up so quickly without some extra support.

As for Dwayne Johnson NOT taking pharmaceuticals? Jesus. Now look, he's incredibly gifted genetically, but he's a friggin' mass monster (as F. King Daniel pointed out, he's substantially more meaty than he was in his wrastlin' days).

I think quite a few actors take stuff to get bigger and look great for these roles, not just wrestlers.
