Swine flu, will it depress turnout?

You can take anything the media says and diminish it by 25% or even more. Their job is to get you to watch and scaring people keeps them glued. Sure, some people may die, but they idea that the end is coming is always, always wrong.
Remember SARS? I know nothing about how viruses work...but just where the hell did that go? How come noone else is even getting sick from it? I'd really like to know.

I knew it! Anti-Star Trek media conspiracy.

I would be more worried when the sequl to this film comes out on Friday, December 21st 2012.............

Accelerating global warming, world economic collapse, a fun new pandemic...

Ya' gotta wonder if those wild and crazy Mayans called it after all.

My personal strategy in the theatre during Trek XI will be to not cut the hole in my surgical facemask any larger than required to admit the straw on my jumbo softdrink or maybe one piece of popcorn at a time.

We got the plot of the sequel right here...

The crew of the Enterprise goes back to 2012 and stops the evil Nibiru ( which is in reality a Unicron like giant transformer) from destroying Earth.

Orci & Kurtzman could write it and Michael Bay could co-direct with Abrams.

You should watch the news with a grain (pound) of salt.
They, like everyone else, are making money when you watch.
Of course... Paramount is ultimately in the same business.

You should also take this a little more seriously...

I've worked in the health field for over thirty years, and this is the first time I've seen TGPTB jump on the bandwagon so fast.

At the hospital where I work we've been talking about this since mid-march, when one of the RN's that I work with, cut short her two week vacation in Mexico because so many people down there were sick.

It was that obvious back then.

She and her husband actually did come down with symptoms and the unit I work on had a bout of some kind of nasty viral-thing going around for awhile after she came back to work.

About half of the staff on my unit also came down with symptoms.
(I've been exposed to so much stuff through the years that the worst it hit me was a day of the Hershey-Squirts and some aches & pains.)

We've had several internal notices/reminders for the last month about proper hand washing and wearing masks if we suspect a patient has flu-like symptoms. (I work on an Oncology floor so we have to be even more cautious than most.)

As far as affecting the turnout to the movie, it's all gonna depend on how things go over the next ten days..,
Some people are more apt to panic (which at this point is pretty much too late cause they've probably already been exposed and don't even know it) and other's will adopt a wait and see attitude (which is the best way to live ones life anyway).

The big question is will this thing turn as deadly in the USA as it has in Mexico, I really doubt it, just because of the better state of our health system.

The folks who need to be a bit more worried than most, are the ones with compromised immune systems. (the elderly, the little ones and the alrready sick.)

This virus IS gonna spread like wildfire (it's already a lot more prevalent in the Northeast than THEY are saying) but fortunately, it's not really a killer-strain here in the USA... at this time.

BTW: NOBODY HAS DIED IN THE USA FROM THIS YET AND I DOUBT THAT ANYBODY HERE ON THE TBBS WILL.

Not trying to scare ya, just an informative heads up...

It's always better to be informed than in the dark...

If ya do the normal things ya should be doing anyway... washing yer hands often with soap or hand cleanser... don't cough or sneeze in other peoples faces... and stay home if ya do get symptoms (which as I said above, are uncomfortable/inconvenient not deadly), then you'll be fine.
