Sweat-Killing Deodorant?

Mr Light

I'm starting a new job on Monday where I have to wear a dress shirt and tie, and that combined with the nerves is going to make me sweat horribly! Nothing more disgusting than feeling that single little bead of sweat slowly tickling its way down your side, ugh.

Does anyone know of a roll-on (or spray I guess) deodorant that prevents you from sweating at all? I swear mine just makes me sweat more! I use Speed Stick Irish Spring.

Well, short of a sympathectomy (a surgical procedure to eliminate sweating with several risks) have you tried a specifically antiperspirant deodorant? The Speed Stick brand I believe includes Speed Stick 24/7 or Pro versions.

I don't know the brand names of any heavy-hitting products, but it sounds like you're looking for an anti-persperent (which is supposed to stop sweating) rather than deoderant (which is designed to stop the odour). Or try an anti-persperent deoderant. Good luck with the job. Maybe do what I do when I'm worried I'll be icky at work and take the can with you. :)

I've also flirted with the idea of tossing baby powder in addition to deodorant but that's probably a horrible idea :D

Use anti-perspirant, wear a tee shirt under your dress shirt, and consider taking a back-up dress shirt with you just in case.

I use Old Spice Showtime, and I work in temps that range from 90 to 115 degrees. It seems to help reduce the sweat, and my pits still smell nice after work.

I'm a pretty heavy sweater at times (partially caused by being something of a lard ass), and I've found a lot of success with Degree and Axe brands. I should warn you that the aluminum (or aluminium) in the deoderants can react with extreme sweat and cause shirt ruining pit stains. You can get them out of white shirts, but not so easily in colored shirts. An alcohol based deoderant won't do this, but it has weaker coverage.

Wear an undershirt (you should wear one always with a white shirt, as they tend to have a "fleshy" tone to them if you omit the undershirt).

A number of business clothiers manufacture lines that are desgined to help keep you cool and/or dry. DKNY, Hagar, Perry Ellis, Van Husen, and Enro all have cool tech styles. I've been very pleased with the results.

What I want to know is why is it so damn hard to find an unscented, "no white marks", moderately strong antiperspirant that isn't overpriced. I currently use Gillette, but it's ridiculously expensive for what it is.

Anyway, to Mr Light, just avoid "Ballmer Blue" shirts and you'll be fine.... ;)

If not already shave your armpits, and a shirt that's a size bigger than you need, always helps, that will stop that tie feeling like a noose round your neck and a shirt thats a little big bigger on the body will make you feel less constraint and hence you will fell more comfortable and less nervous.

Getting wrong size shirts is appalling advice; you will look like ass.

Granted, having massive pit stains will also make you look like ass.

Just use any decent anti-perspirant, for goodness sake. If you need something really strong, but still easy available, I think the Mitchum stuff is supposed to be strong. Unless you have a serious sweat issue, it's not that difficult a problem!

You look more like an ass if you go a size DOWN. A size up isn't the worst thing on the planet to do with your shirts.

On that note, there were some gals at the ol' Diamond Jo last night who were "dressed up." I'm sorry lady, but that top, with your build, really DOESN'T flatter you. No, it doesn't actually flatter your breasts either. All it does is draw my eyes to your paunch and make me think you don't know how to shop for clothes tht fit. And really, if you DID know how to shop for clothes that fit, I'd probably find you attractive. ARGH!
