SW blu-rays have changes to the films again

Do these people(Red Letter Mediaetc) really think Lucas gives Two Fu**s about these wannabe internet fanboy reviewers?
While the RLM people spend their time talking trash about the Prequels, Lucas is STILL making millions off them.

We are all entitled to opinions, but none of us are really in any position to lecture Lucas about his own movies. All the bashing in the world can't change the fact that these movies were a HUGE success.

Hell, ROTS is even critically acclaimed. 80% of Rottentomatoes critics gave it thumbs up (among them some who actually matter), so why would Lucas, McCallum, or anyone else from Lucasfilm give a rats ass about what some butthurt fanboys on the internet think?

BTW, I think these blu-rays are an abomination. But guess what? I won't buy them.

Stupidity, exaggeration, getting overrated by sheep-like followers...the RLM review of TPM basically covers all of my pet peeves.

Had to stop reading and share this quote from Page 6. Stupidity, exaggeration, and getting overrated by sheep-like followers... yep, that's a good short list of some of the big problems with TPM... wait, you're talking about the review??? Oh.... I need a pizza roll.

The relevant part of the Episode III review trailer starts about 1 minute in:

So people can't have fun and entertain themselves by making fun of something that is a huge success?

I remember a few years back, when Tom Cruise was jumping on Oprah's couch there were a slew of websites that popped up making fun of Cruise and tracking all of his batshit insane comments.

Well, guess what? Tom Cruise is a huge success too! And he probably doesn't give a rat's ass what anybody thinks of him!

Besides which, and I'm sure I've argued with countless people on this before, but if the prequels were great films that could stand on their own without being a part of Star Wars, there would be no RLM reviews! I don't recall ever seeing a 90 minute review trashing Blade Runner, or 2001.

Oh, is that what they're doing? Because I was under the impression that many of them (if not most) are suffering from serious post-traumatic stress because of all the childhood raping going on...

Seriously, there are fans who make fun of all this, but then there are those who take Star Wars way too seriously for their own good. So much anger and bitterness out there.

This. It's supposed to be fun. Wookipedia is not fun. Nerdrages about NOOOOOO is not fun.

Yea, capping on something you think is ridiculous/wrong is one thing, but, the rage some express about their "sacred TV and Films" seems very mentally unhealthy (it may just be exaggerating for effect, but, it comes off as psycho)

Well, I can't speak for every fan, but the guys at RLM do what they do for fun and entertainment.

The guy who wrote the 108 page bash against their TPM review probably takes SW a little too seriously.

I agree. It's clear that RLM are huge fans, and they just wanted to vent, to show what it is that really separates their affection for the OT from what has been coming out, not just from Lucas, but from films in general. RLM's first film review of this type was for Generations, and it's their love for the franchise that caused them to want to tackle that film.

The guy that wrote the rebuttal is also a fan, but he missed the overall point.

As for that overall point, I think RLM best explained it at the end of his ROTS review

I like the second part of the new Krayt dragon scream. The first part sounded a bit weird but so did the second iteration. Don't notice the new rocks around R2 much at all.

I REALLY want Lucas to make extended cuts now, though and integrate in the deleted scenes, particularly Biggs and Anchorhead concept intro, the Wampa attacks and 3P0's prank on the snowtroopers in TESB, the ROTJ Vader/Luke lightsaber prep/intro before sending the droids to Jabba, the extended arena fight and droid control ship in AOTC, the birth of the Rebellion in ROTS (if not also a few more Jedi going down in Order 66)

It would *almost* be possible to deal with the other stupid changes if he would occasionally do something like this. There's so many little character beats and scenes that would truly add to the films, if he insists on tinkering with them after the fact.

You can just see him sitting there watching the Blu-Rays thinking "Han Solo should've been blonde... you know what? I'm gonna re-re-re-re-release the original trilogy but this time give Ford a blonde hairdo. And maybe make Chewbacca a stereotypical Ethiopian boy."

You just know it.

I have not watche dit all yet but...

.. they apparently got rid of the garbage mattes. This was my main reason for buying the sety, and was well worth it.

The speeder bike chaise, though unchanged, looks fantastic. The clarity is so good it holds up BETTER than most chases in modern films. In older releases you can see some of the tricks that were used (blue screen to miniature, to superimposed images) but now all those elements are blended better. It shows me that all those elements still worked.. and they work better than CGI does today, makes me wish they would try some of those techniques

Just finished ROTJ and my first viewing of the Saga in chronological Episode order I through VI complete. Definitely a new experience for the Saga on BD.

I take serious issue with some of the pro reviews I've read out there. There is the oddball soft shot, but RotJ is replete with great detail. You can see plenty of pores on faces, for example, throughout, most notably on Mark Hamil and Ian McDiarmid's makeup. Harrison Ford's face is especially noteworthy on Endor after the Death Star explosion. Also VERY high detail in the makeup of Sebastian Shaw. There is definitely no waxy face here, other than Carrie Fisher's makeup. I never did notice the blood on Han's fingers after Leia gets shot, either. The blinking Ewoks are pretty cool. Very natural and well executed, especially on the baby Ewoks when 3PO is telling his story. Did they do the whole eyes or was the lighting refined for the Blu-ray? I also noticed much more detail when Vader is looking for Luke under the stairwell. My initial impression was brightness/gamma/lighting but it could just be excellent shadow detail. I don't recall seeing the pupils before, either. Most noticeable on Wicket but also on the Chief and a couple others. Audio wise, it's a great mix. Best use of surrounds since TPM. I heards animals, speeder bikes, Ewoks, and blasters. The Battle of Endor. Is. Awesome. Both picture and audio. I would like to see those shrinking TIE fighters fixed one of these days, probably digitally, but it's not as high up on my list as the desire for Lucas to edit in deleted scenes into Extended Special Editions. :)

WRT the most infamous change, the "noooo" my initial impression actually watching it in the movie wasn't nearly as negative to when I saw it on youtube when the news broke. I was almost in favor of it at the time it actually happened on the first full viewing. Once the credits finished, I was back to wishing he would leave it out, but now I'm back to being conflicted. I really didn't mind it... if I haven't mentioned it before, Vader's "moment of truth" is my single most favorite moment in the entire saga. I've watched it at least hundreds of times at the movies, on VHS, cable/sat/tv, DVD, and now Blu-ray... I would have been really interested in my reaction if I hadn't heard all the angst on the interwebs about it... I remember initially being confused when the SE first came out and was about to start humming the yub yub song and the new Williams score started. I now love that so much better than the yub-yub and think this may have the potential to get there, as well. It wasn't poorly executed as Hayden Christensen ghost looking down and then in a seemingly different direction from Alec Guinness and the Yoda Muppet... I'll give it some more thought and probably watch just that chapter again in the next day or two.

Uhmmmmm, while RLM certainly takes the "fun" approach to the reviews, you can't deny that releasing a total of like 250 minutes worth of prequel bashing material comes off as kinda whack.

Many critics summed up everything that was wrong with these movies in 500 words or less.

And even if we ignore the probability of this being the biggest case of nitpicking in film-review history, the fact still remains, the reviews are terribly biased and many of the points made are just plain wrong.

The rebuttal guy certainly appears to take SW too seriously, sure, but I guess he wrote it for all those people who took RLM's reviews seriously. And make no mistake, many people did.

Given that there's at least 415 minutes of prequel to bash, I'll deny it's whack just because of its length, assuming 250 minutes is accurate, which I'll take your word for. It actually sets a benchmark. One should expect an even more thorough bashing to be longer. Now we know longer than what.

Besides, not every second of the RLM reviews is dedicated to prequel bashing. I don't know how many minutes is devoted to his campy horror subplot, but that arguably actually is whack.
