Re: Full list of Star Wars blu-ray deleted scenes

After consideration I decided to watch it 1 through 6. Never watched them that way before.

Watching The Phantom Menance now and the pod race feels extended. Again.

Seems a bit more interplay with Anakin and some of the other racers. Not seen the film for a while so I might just be a bit rusty with it. Can't put my finger on it, but some of the shots seem different too. Especially the shot where Anakin jumps over the Canyon in his pod. Always though that shot looked a bit hokey, but it looked a lot better.

Might just be the HD but definately seems to have changed. Could just be me.

Also, might just be me but the subtitles when Anakin speaks to Sebulba seem different. Did he really use the word "outlander" before?

Re: Full list of Star Wars blu-ray deleted scenes

Lucas did add more to the Pod Race, such as altering Sebulba gurning for the audience, and intros for the other racers in the DVD. In the deleted scenes there's even another extended cut of the pod race, complete with an extended fart joke. No, not kidding.

Reportedly, the new footage of the Pod Race was done by ILM's b-team or something during production of AOTC (Part of the reason TPM was released on DVD when it was-2001- was to get marketing for AOTC underway. There was even a DVD exclusive trailer-"Mystery".

Having said that, looking at some recent films that are PG-13 (like Iron Man) maybe Star Wars should be PG-13. In fact, I'm surprised that ESB wasn't given the rating as well, given the number of adult themes in that film (Han being tortured, Luke having his arm cut off, ect.).
The PG-13 rating was created in 1984, for Temple of Doom.

I thought it was created for gremlins

It was created because of GREMLINS and TOD, but RED DAWN was the first movie released as PG-13.

I remember reading that Lucas was concerned about the film's rating about the smoking skeletons of Luke's aunt and uncle. However the scene has remained unchanged.

I don't have any perfect examples, but I am sure there are countless films where there is a hostage situation and the hostage takers are shot performing the act.

I don't buy the story either, but the MPAA has been accused of many things. Being consistent is not one of them.

I know. I'm saying I'm surprised the films weren't retroactively made PG-13 for the video releases. Assuming such a thing is ever done.

He should have made them CGI skeletons.

Re: Full list of Star Wars blu-ray deleted scenes

Honestly, it felt like he tinkered again. Not to the detriment as such but felt like there were lots of minor tweaks to the whole film. Little editing choices. Maybe watching it in HD made the difference I don't know.

Gungan/Droid battle looked fake as hell though.

I think the only way to get "rerated" would be to submit again to the MPAA. And I don't know why one would do that.

Exactly. This is why movies made before the MPAA don't have ratings or "Unrated" movies are so "popular." All a studio has to do is add in cut scenes (no matter the content) and the movie becomes "unrated."

Artoo becomes a freaking NINJA!

Re: Full list of Star Wars blu-ray deleted scenes

Someone noted that the original Star Wars won an Oscar for editing and when you watched the most recent edition of it, it's hard to imagine why because Lucas has tampered with it so much.

I've first saw the Tosche station footage in the late 90s when I bought that Behind the Magic CD Rom. Interesting stuff.

Keen to see the Sandstorm footage.

Well my buddy went out and bought the 9 disc set this morning so it looks like a beer and Star Wars night is ahead of me tonight.

Though you're being sarcastic, I agree he should. He could put a bit more charred flesh and put the skeleton laying face down in a bit more natural of a pose instead of the school demonstration skeleton

Isn't the MPAA ratings for movies released in theaters only? Why should it be done for video releases?

You don't even *have* to submit them for rating. It's technically a strictly voluntary process, but no theater chain in the US will touch an unrated film (only art houses and revival cinemas).

And you don't have to rate for home video release. That's why the "unrated" DVD schtick is so popular. Any added footage changes the film, if you don't submit it to the MPAA, then it's now an unrated film.

Pretty sure Lucas would have had to resubmit the Special Editions for re-rating back in 1997, and in most cases a rating will stand for something like that.

I haven't seen the scene in a while, so I'm not sure what you mean by that. Why would face down be more natural? I know people don't really fall back when shot by bullets, because bullets don't really have impact. However, we don't know about the imaginary weapons they use in Star Wars.
