SW blu-rays have changes to the films again

That's not the original. That's an old transfer of the original.
Yes, well of course it's not the master tape. But it's a version of the movie that looks exactly like the original looked thirty years ago.

Not exactly.

Damn.

I actually netflixed the first "bonus" disc when it first came out just to see how bad it was, and it was pretty awful on my widescreen set. I'm definitely going to have to try actually hooking up my LD player to it now. I've got the Faces trilogy and the Fox widescreen editions (which have better colors IMHO). So maybe if I sit far enough back that will work.

Looking forward to this release. It'll be the first time I show my daughter the movies. She has seen and enjoys the Clone Wars TV show.

That one was not done...it was something that some fans wanted for continuity's sake, but they left in the ringship.

See, now you're just being pointlessly pedantic.

People don't have problems with changes like that being made to make the films viewable, and listen-to...able....(?!), with modern systems. Those are expected changes for releasing the original versions.

How is it pedantic to point out that a change you said was made, in fact was not made?
He seems to be of the impression that I was engaged in a larger argument with him, which I wasn't...I was just correcting a fact.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a change that I would have made. I thought that the original was fine. But no matter who shoots first, Han still comes off as a bad-ass with an "edge". How can a person who kills a sentient in a public place, strolls on out like its an everyday occurance while apologizing for the mess not be considered to have an edge? What does Han have to do to regain his so-called "edge" in that scene? Eat the corpse?

Because catching Greedo by surprise, before he could get his own shot off, is a helluva lot more badass than simply being lucky that Greedo can't aim straight.

Well said.

Besides...Han DID kill Greedo in self-defense in the original version. When someone has a gun at you and says he's going to kill you, you're allowed to take actions to protect your life. In a GFFA, I'm sure you're really, really allowed to do that. Han shooting first is a pre-emptive strike.

Also, it's inconsistent. In the cantina, Obi-Wan struck down one guy and disarmed another guy without allowing them to fire a shot. As soon as Obi-Wan saw them pull a weapon, he cut them down. Would Lucas consider that coldblooded murder? No, Obi-Wan was defending him like Han was. I'm shocked he didn't have those character shoot first against Obi-Wan.

Lucas greatly underestimates children...I got what Han was doing when I was 8. It was a kill or be killed situation (if you don't have CGI magic that allows you to dodge laser blasts from 3 feet away). Letting the other guy shoot first = stupid and dead.

Just to nitpick, the TDK quote is "...live long enough to see yourself become the villain." But it's still applicable. :techman:

Lucas should've just rebooted the OT to better fit with the prequels instead of just trying to make the OT work with the prequels...or...alternately, the prequels could've been made better to fit with the OT, but what's done is done. But atleast with a reboot we'd have the original films to fall back on.

But in what way is Star Wars continuity important or even necessary to enjoy the movies?
