SW blu-rays have changes to the films again

Taking offense isn't a right? Sure it is! What are you the fucking thought police?

^ Somebody needs to go look up the definition of the word/term 'right' as it pertains to the context in which you're using it. Taking offense at/being annoyed something is a choice, although, ultimately, it's a futile one and doesn't do anyone any harm other than the person making it (since it robs them of being able to enjoy the thing they're too busy being annoyed by or taking offense at).

I think the biggest thing is that Lucas' entire fame is based off people watching these movies and there'd be a lot less complaining if he'd simply release the originals that've been cleaned up and remastered for modern-day media.

No CGI bullshit added, nothing changed to try and make the prequels fit-in. Just the original movies on BD in HD.

Personally I wish he would just so fans would stfu already.

I'm pretty dumb so you might have to point out the hair you're splitting for me in excruciating detail, otherwise I'll just be sitting here staring at my dictionary with drool leaking out of the side of my mouth.

Being annoyed at something isn't what I'd call a choice per se, it's a reaction. I can't not be annoyed with Lucas because he fucking annoys me.

It did make a DVD or blu ray release of the actual Original Trilogy go away. We will never ever see it.

ummmm... the DVD ones came out in 2006 in a dual limited edition. I have it in my hand right now, bought 'em at Wal-mart w/a copy of the Marvel comic version in each.

"Disc 2 - Original 1977 theatrical version of Star Wars.

now are the new deleated sceens going to be put back into the movie or are they on a different disc?

Different disc.

Yes, but the quality of the transfer is pretty bad, and they aren't anamorphic.

I'm glad they've fixed the mastering problems with the '04 DVDs. As for the Special Edition changes, well a few I like, most I don't, but I've made my peace with those. I'm very much looking forward to the deleted scenes and other bonus features. I do wish that some day he'd make an HD anamorphic version of the '77 Star Wars available. But, there's always the fan community releases. (Or my Story of Star Wars LP :techman: )

But they do exist lol... :D

And of course we have the right to be annoyed... just as GL has the right to not give a tinker's damn if we're annoyed. It works both ways.

When you think about the buisness mind of Lucas as opposed to the creative side, releasing the original trilogy as they originally appeared in the cinema in 1977-1983 would make sense; people would buy them.

It's unfortunate he views them as 'rough cuts' so we'll never get them. I imagine the 2006 release was a one off. We might get them in 2015 when the 3D of ANH is released but I doubt it.

I don't care either way. When I watched them on DVD I found the special editions to be far superior.

Obviously Lucas has the right to make his changes, but that doesn't mean people can't be annoyed by it-- especially when they're the only high-quality versions we're allowed to have now.

Umm, yes it does. People don't have any grounds to be annoyed by the changes Lucas makes to the SW films because they have no controlling interest(s) in said films.

I have the right to be annoyed by anything I fucking feel like, including your annoying ass post.

Infraction for flaming. Comments to PM

The first DVD release for the OT was rush job. Terrible lightsaber effects and John Williams' score can't even be heard during some parts of the attack on the Death Star in ANH. That's what happens you rush a dvd release to meet a deadline.

I wouldn't be surprised if this Blu-Ray release was plagued with problems.

I'm over the OT vs SE debate. Any time I notice a post with that, I tend to skip them.

While I am not a huge fan of some of the stuff George Lucas added to the Special Editions (Greedo shooting first, the musical number in ROTJ) I did like some of the stuff he added. Most notably, I really like the extended scene of Luke and Obi-Wan entering Mos Eisley.

Having said that I would still really like to have the option to see the original theatrical release on Blu-Ray. Sadly, I gave away my VHS copies long ago and I wonder if I'll ever get to see the original theatrical release again.

What's the harm in fixing errors/production flubs?

Nothing.

Except some of those errors and flubs he's been correcting for the last 20-years or so in all of these re-releases has included changing the very fabric of a popular character and inserting countless amounts of CGI creature bullshit and every possible opportunity.

I'd hate to imagine the original three Star Wars movies if Lucas could make what he had in mind back then.

Then we'd have excessive crap on top of more excessive crap

It might have been cool visually, but I really missed the eerie, desolate feel of the place in the original version.

Instead it became just as busy and overcrowded with aliens and little flying doodads as all those OTHER cities we saw in the PT.

The link posted on the first page hints that the restorers actually "got it right" this time.

Then again, being whiny Star Wars fans, that's in the eye of the beholder. :p

Really? The scene where nothing really happens except a bunch of extra CGI bullshit being displayed?

That is what gets me about the SE's is the CGI bullshit that is all over the place! When the Stormtroopers find the escape pod in the original one it's just the couple of them that do it. Now there's bullshit all over the damn place! And most of that bullshit doesn't even blend in well with the rest of the scene as it's crystal-clear clean CGI as opposed to the look of the actual stuff that was filmed.

Same thing with Mos Eisley where bullshit is going on everywhere to the point where a CGI creature actually walks through frame and blocks the flippin' camera!

Stuff that adds something to the movie he genuinely couldn't do, like the scene with Han and Jabba, is all fine and good and can be mostly forgiven for its flaws -the look of Jabba, the odd manipulation of Han as he walks behind Jabba- as it's something. But most of additions made in the entire OT is just bullshit. Silly bullshit that did not need to be added.

Well I would certainly have been more of a fan of a more minimalist backwater Tattooine in the first prequel to bring the planet down in scale rather than changing 4 to bring it up but we must also consider the massive action figure machine that has been churning out 'canon' characters for 40 years. They can't keep that up unless they add new stuff in! I will say that Schmi Skywalker was probably my favourite thing about the prequels, although Christopher Lee is always great, and it was cool to see Ian McDiarmid return even if they really overdid his make-up in 3.

Oh God that is so awful. They should have just let him walk normally. Nobody but a bunch of nerds would have complained about that he walks through Jabba's tail. But now he makes that silly, artificial movement. Just like his freaking stupid neck twist when Greedo shoots.
