Survivor (Season 42): Life, the Universe... and Everything!

I'm struggling to think of another Survivor season where the black people got voted out en masse, like Drea said at Tribal?

I mean they only ever really had one or two black people per season, which was silly in and of itself

There was a season where there were 4 tribes - one white, one black, one Asian, and one latino/latina (sorry, I don't know the correct terminology for this last group).

I don't remember how it turned out, or who won, or even how long ago it was. The fact that they only did it once would indicate that it wasn't well-received.

This is the first time we've gotten to the final seven and there isn't anyone left I'd be sad to see win. (Watching the current episode right now) I'm favoring Omar, I think he's played the best game so far. But everyone left has at least has some reasonable argument to win. Jonathon I'd normally vote against, but his ability to be the obvious best challenge competitor and not be voted out is impressive. He has strong self awareness. If I were to rank my preference (Not seeing who got voted out today yet):

Omar
Maryanne
Lindsay
Mike
Dreya
Jonathon
Romeo

There hasn't been a season where black people got voted out en masse because there hasn't been many seasons where black people were in the game en masse.

I don't think anyone in this season is thinking "Hey let's get rid of the black people". But maybe, they protect the people they naturally identify with more, and they subconsciously don't identify as much with the other black players. And it's not the kind of thing you can individually blame any player for being racist. But the outcome is the same.

Holy crap. BOTH TIMES, the Monty Hall game. BOTH TIMES, they make the statistically wrong choice. And BOTH TIMES, they survive. 1/9. Wow.

That was some strong play in the last episode.

Mike and Maryanne working together to stop the anti-likability crusade. And making Lindsay feel comfortable enough not to play the idol that became useless after that tribal.

It’s only Mike and Maryanne that have idols now right? I think one of them will win just because there’s no way to keep them both out of the finals barring secret idol nullifiers.

Although you do have to give Jonathan some credit for being that strong and avoiding being ousted as a challenge threat.

I'm unhappy that I will probably never see that adorable t-shirt again. :(

Finale next week. Neither of the three people I'd be happy winning is named Mike or Romeo.

You’d be happy with Jonathan winning? He’s basically a more self aware version of the classic meathead.

It’s Jonathon and Romeo I would be unhappy with.

Has he done or said anything egregiously obnoxious? Been violent to anyone outside the context of a challenge?

Not particularly, but he hasn’t done anything in the game besides be physically strong. No big moves, no advantages, and he keeps getting beaten in challenges by a girl half his size. He made a few of the right alliances and was smart enough not to yell at people.

So he's not as good as some people. But he hasn't been a terrible person, and is one factor I take into account when picking a list of people I would not mind to win.

I'd root for the person who was better at playing the game over the nicer person, unless they're a *real* obnoxious person. The person who made the right connections and decisions and was in charge of their destiny over the person who just floated by. And frankly Jonathan isn't even one of the nicer people this year. He was pompous and rude.

Anyone one of the people we both liked won. Maryanne is someone who started out playing weak but then played a really strong endgame. Not to mention the showmanship of dramatically pulling out the unused idol.

I'm very happy with the winner as well.
Maryanne's jubilant personality was a joy to behold and contagious; she made you smile just watching her.

She may not have played a strong physical game, but her social game was on point, and strategically she managed to maneuver things to her favor while staying under the radar and not turning anyone against her.

Then the final reveal of how she had saved the advantage to ensure her place in the final locked in her win. You could tell on the faces of the jury that she had it in that moment.

Good for her. I hope she can use that money to do something good for herself as she's starting out in life.

Is it safe to say now everyone who reads this thread has seen it?

Maryanne might be the first female player who played a subtle strategic game and also got credit for it. What she said about all the young players who were obviously strategic being voted out was right on point, she may have overestimated her social game before the merge but she knew what she was doing at every point.

Yeah, I think it's safe to drop the spoilers by this point. We usually keep it vague for the first 24 hours so all the regular posters have a chance to see the show.

Second Canadian in a row! :D

I think Big Brother starts in 2 weeks, anyone have dibs on the thread?
Go ahead. I couldn't find a cast list, and all I know is that it starts on July 6, with a 90-minute premier. The houseguests are said to be all new, no veterans returning for any reason.
