Survivor (Season 42): Life, the Universe... and Everything!

I like Maryanne a lot but she is not good at this game. I just want to meet her IRL. And vote her the fan prize. There’s no obvious favorites so far.
It's only been two episodes. We don't know what she's good at other than being exhaustingly cheerful.

I'm not unhappy at who did get voted out. I didn't find her very likeable.

@JirinPanthosa I don't recall Varner showing all that much contrition, or didn't believe in its sincerity if he did, and he's still the first person ever actually evicted from the game because of his own actions.

Re: Maryanne, it sounds to me like you aren't seeing that there are levels to her beyond her weirdness and infectious personality, so what I would say is 'wait and see' before you completely write her off.

If we’re talking about the guy who said “You didn’t tell people you were transgender”, that is definitely Penner, not Varner. I recall that it visibly dawned on him what he did and he felt horrible and left yelling Sorry. I haven’t followed up any statements he made after the game but in the broadcast it seemed like a s moment of ignorance being caught up in the moment.

Also, Penner did not out him on National TV. Penner outed him to the Survivor cast and crew. The Survivor producers outed him on National TV. And they had time to think about and carefully consider it.

^ No, that's Jeff Varner. You're the one confusing them.

Jonathan Penner is this guy:

Well, that was a weird tribal council. I'm not unhappy with who got voted off, though.

The challenge, though... that really wasn't fair. There is no way the other two tribes should have just had their keys handed to them. The first tribe worked through the difficult waves, so unless the other teams were at serious risk of drowning, they should have come up with a different solution.

Okay. But if the weather was that bad that day... going ahead with the challenge at all was insane.

Huh, I was sure it was Penner on his last appearance, weird. Huge Mandela Effect for me there.

That was an unfortunate situation for Wendy. Being in the majority but half your allies losing their vote. I don't get why her ally risked her vote there. After telling Omar that she needed to keep her vote, what did she think he was going to do?

Dan totally torpedoed his game there. He just lost everyone's trust forever, trying to pin his vote on someone else. He could have gotten away with changing his vote to avoid rocks, but not the cagey way he did it.

I don't disagree with handing them the keys, as it was obvious the water level was rising, they were struggling to stay above water, and nobody was going to do it. And it didn't take the victory away from the team that did it.

It's not totally unprecedented to stop a challenge, I remember that one challenge where they had to push the giant ball they stopped it because nobody could move the ball an inch in the center of the court, they stopped and negotiated who got immunity.

This is turning out to be one of those seasons where I've found lots of people I don't like, simply because they're annoying or boring, and nobody I really think deserves to win.

When do they merge, or at least split 3 tribes into 2?

I think they haven't been doing tribe swaps just because it'd interfere with their idol password thing.

There's enough players I like, but none that are clear favorites. A lot of the strategic threats will probably do better just because Jonathon will be the focus after the merge, he's gone the first immunity he doesn't win.

Some of those tribes are going to get very small if they keep losing.

No big surprise who went home. Do you think Mike made the right call activating his idol? I guess they needed his vote, but now everyone knows he has an idol.

I need to remind myself who has the three parts of the amulet before the merge.

No idea who the favorites are now. Jonathan is the obvious target, and the longer he stays in the game the longer the good strategic players can slide through. Hai and Drea seem to have solid social games. Lydia could fly under the radar, and Omar also seems pretty solid.

Yeah, no surprise. Do you think he was faking about how long his injury was taking to heal?

I don’t think he was faking so much as selectively judging it’s severity based on whether it’s a thing he wanted to do.

So the times he sat out were only times when he thought it might aggravate the problem, or used it as an excuse, or some combination?

To be fair, a leisurely bit of snorkeling isn't the same degree of swimming that some of those frenetic challenges are.

I mean, think about it like you're a child and you feel just slightly sick. It's time to go to school "Mom, I feel sick". It's time to do something fun, "I'm fine, I'm feeling much better."

It's nice to see someone go to exile and not whine about it. That was unexpected that he would find it such a positive experience.

Not unhappy about who got voted out. I'm starting to rather like MaryAnn and Jonathan. And I covet Omar's ostrich t-shirt.

I'm only 30 minute in so trying not to read the last sentence of your post for now.

I love the way they promote Applebees here. "Applebees. It tastes good after you've been starving on an island for two weeks. Applebees."

I did try to keep my post vague, out of respect for the folks here who don't watch the show at the same time I do. You'll notice that I almost never immediately mention the name of who got voted out.

EDIT: What's wrong with the last sentence? Saying I like someone's t-shirt isn't a spoiler! Especially when he's worn it for the last two or three episodes at least... Nor is saying I'm beginning to like certain players.
