Survivor 27 Discussion

I don't really understand the mindset in the voting strategy this season. I have watched Survivor since the beginning and the basic strategy to me seems to be this; vote out your weak players until the merge (keeps your tribe strong and away from tribal) then you vote our your strong players after the merge thus eliminating your strongest competition. This season they seem to be almost doing it backwards. Voting Morgan out; I mean really?? Could you ask for a better person to be with at the end? Nobody would vote for her. I just don't get it but I guess that's what keeps us watching!! :)

They're worried about hidden immunity idols, so they sometimes vote for the players they think are the least likely to be protected by one.

I was expecting Morgan to be voted off when she suddenly had a lot of airtime. I liked Tony's quote where he couldn't tell if Morgan was a pillow or a person.

I still don't know what Kass' strategy is. It was probably smart of her to not flip again, because that would've guaranteed her no votes if she made it to the finals.

This is just people trying to play the game too hard. You gotta find a middle ground

Morgan is fucking useless, but perhaps would have been ok to keep around because she's not even coming close to winning a million.

Why even bother going into Survivor with the sort of mindset she has, what a fool. I guess you need some eye candy, but still, when your strategy is to do nothing but lie around, not play the game and expect people to do things for you so you eventually don't even come close to winning the prize you're supposedly there for.......what a colossal waste of time. She must have nothing going on back at home.

I'd much rather the producers pick someone really willing to play the game instead of a vapid wallflower with big tits.
Did they recruit any of this season's players? Or are they all real contestants?

I guess some of them figure that as long as they're going to be paid something (according to how many days they last), they might as well treat it as a holiday if they have no realistic chance of winning.

Kass's strategy is "I'm mad at this person right now, therefore vote them out."

They voted Morgan out because she was deemed the least likely to be the recipient of an idol. Tony may be a little too eager to run at the mouth but he's made smart voting decisions. Also, he's become more of a Rob than a Russell mid-season, really inspiring loyalty in his team.

I like Tony. He's not like Russell at all, to me, because he sees his alliance as a group and not him at the top and everyone else at the bottom. We've seen him trust the members of his alliance as he went along with Trish's idea to vote off Cliff and then later to pull Kass into their alliance. I could see Trish at the very end, too, now that I think about it.

Tony's gotten much less Russell-like since the first few episodes. I think he tried to play the Russell game but his natural instinct was to form a tight team.

Ok so Kass is an idiot. She's not playing the game, she's just doing whatever. I'm really liking Spencer at this point and I think I'm rooting for him now. This episode was yet again excellent. The tribals are probably the best tribals in all of Survivor. I hope Tony goes out soon, he's completely untrustworthy.

I'm really liking this season. Now that they've got rid of the useless Morgan, I actually like everyone left, they are a respectable bunch of players. Even Trish showed herself to have some game last week. And Woo's stealth ninja moves were pretty awesome this week. I even like both Kass and Spencer, who are obviously playing different games but both playing nonetheless. I'm loving that we spent the first half of the season getting rid of the all of the non-threats. It does seem silly from the perspective of someone in the game, but as a viewer I think it will make for a very good second half of the season.

Trish already showed she could play the game. Remember it was her who got the idea that Kass could be turned when Tony was focusing on Sarah and obsessing over idol strategies.

Spencer's a good guy and I wouldn't be sad if he won but he's bad at convincing people to his side.

Or is it that he's in situations where he doesn't think he needs to convince people to be on his side, because it's a no brainer, and then they make the most ridiculous decisions that they'll ultimately end up regretting? i.e. Tasha not voting off the crazy nuclear scientist who ruined their rice and was the worst in challenges ever or Kass flipping and going from the top of an alliance to the bottom of one.

If a player is constantly being betrayed by people who it is in their best interest to stay with him, wouldn't you say that indicates he might not be the best at fostering loyalty?

It happens once, maybe it's not his fault and it's just bad luck or insanity. It happens over and over, it is his fault. Same with Troyzan, he kept saying he wasn't outsmarted, he was 'Out-dumbed' because he was voted out by people who would have been much better off staying with him. But if you can't convince people to stay on your side even though it's their smart move to do so, it means you're terrible at the game.

I don't know that I agree with this. Sometimes dumb is dumb, and no amount of logic or persuasion can turn a dumb person away from doing a dumb thing.

It's not so much that Spencer couldn't convince someone to be on his side, I think it's that he failed to realize he was in a situation in which he had to, because someone with common sense wouldn't have thought to make that move.

If anything, i would argue Spencer failed to notice how much Sarah had made Kass feel alienated and to do what was necessary to bring her back into the fold. It's a high level social skill that the elite players of the game seem to have.

^I agree with that assessment of the situation. Imagine, for example, what Boston Rob would have done. He would have noticed what was going on and immediately gone to Kass to convince her that she and only she was a part of his inner circle of trust. And then he'd do the same with Sarah.

I'm super skeptical that Tony just happened to pick that tree to look for the idol. I also hate what the "special idol" is. It's way too powerful, now Tony and no one from his alliance can be blindsided if he doesn't want them to be.

Well, he can only play it on his own behalf, but yeah, that special idol is just stupid powerful. Tony and his game of hustle and hustling has grown on me some, but I still find him obnoxious. It's too bad Spencer got out-guessed on the idol, but I think it was a mistake on his part. There's more upside to making the 'selfless' move there, and I think most of the time opposing votes are going to assume the selfish play. Maybe I'm overestimating how lazy mister model is, but there just didn't seem to be any reason to think he could possibly have found the idol from the edit.

Anyway I'll cheer for Spencer until the bitter end. He seems like he would be a good StarCraft 2 partner. And really, isn't that the highest compliment you could give to a player?

I'm still rooting for Spence, but I think his days are numbered. Tony is entertaining to watch, but I find his personality too grating to really root for him, even though it's looking more and more like he's going to win.

I agree that the Special Idol is too powerful, even with the restrictions placed on it.

I knew Jeffra was too wishy-washy to back up her promise to Spencer and his allies. But Tony's alliance seems quite content to sit back and let him win.
