Surprise red shirt action

The crushed yeoman had lovely doe eyes and other charming attributes. The grinding up of her was especially traumatic for Kirk.

Agreed. She was a cutie. Funny how killing one cute yeoman was actually more surprising than killing Spock.

Of all the redshirts that croaked, this one really hit me. I guess it was a combination of a LADY redshirt getting done in (Have there been any others?), the way she was done in; or probably, the suspence of which one was going to get it, if any at all. The amount of time that passed between them getting dehydrated and the final rehydration was well done.

In Forbiden Planet, Warren Stevens had one of, if not THE, greatest lines in all sci-fi. As he dies, he says, "Monsters from the ID!". Doesn't get much better than that.

Not a lady REDshirt, but two other lady blueshirts bought it during TOS' run. One was the the ship's psychologist knifed by a possessed Scotty in "Wolf in the Fold" and the other died of the aging disease in "The Deadly Years".

Actress Cobb was married to "First Contact's" James Cromwell, was she not? She was also paid tribute to in the famous Shatner "Get a Life!" sketch - she was played by Victoria Jackson, the joke being that someone with so inconsequential a role would be given a convention appearance.

What a shame. I was thinking more along the lines of Kirk's redshirt cannon fodder.

It's a tragic tale that plays out countless times every day on re-runs of classic Star Trek. Captain Kirk & Co. beam down to an alien planet. They come under attack by some malevolent energy being or dudes in rubber suits. Security crewmen wearing red shirts get vaporized, stabbed and poisoned by booby-trapped flowers.
