Surely something good happened to you today

Received a wonderful note this morning from my newspaper carrier thanking me for the small sum I gave her last week for her unfailingly excellent deliveries. While reading her note inside my house, I laughed AND smiled because she was ''greatful.''* And great, too.

(*My father was a proofreader, but this note has my favorite mispelling of all time.)

When I filled up today, the price of regular gasoline had dropped below $4.00 per gallon for the first time in at least a couple of decades. Probably won't stay that low for long, though.

Wow, it stays in the high $3.00 range here, and when it does get up to $4.00 it doesn't usually stay there very long.

I never have a good frame of reference when Americans talk about gas prices, so I've tried to do some conversions to see how ours compare.

When I was out yesterday, gas seemed to be at 139.9 (cents) per litre (which admittedly is fairly low, especially compared to summer). Using a litre to gallon conversion factor I found online, that should be about $5.2958 per gallon, and then converting that to US dollars gives about US$3.71 per gallon.

It's not that long ago it was sitting around 159.9, which by the same conversions, should be about US$4.24 per gallon. During the summer, it's not unusual for it be up around 179.9 or higher, which seems to convert to about US$4.77 per gallon.

Assuming I'm doing the conversions correctly.

Christmas Break started today. No school for a week! :D

Congratulations! But I guess I'm a little surprised to hear it's only a week; the Christmas holiday at the schools here are two weeks.

This was actually yesterday, but the beard arrived.

Had to order a new white beard so I can be Santa for my youngest niece. It's been a fun tradition to play Santa the last 15 years for the various nieces and nephews. Looking forward to playing the role once again!

(I mix it up sometimes and add a different twist for Santa... aching knees with a hurt back. After all, he's carrying a heavy sack most of the night AND living in the North Pole all these years has got to be playing hell with his bones. Who says you can't have some realism with fantasy? :))

Wasn't sure if this should go in the 'Frustrate' thread, I'm certainly feeling some frustration with myself but ultimately the outcome is good.

I have a 10th generation kindle, with a light up screen.

Had it a few years now and I use it a lot. Noticed a little while back it seemed to have a spot on the screen that was brighter than elsewhere and the letters beneath the bright spot, while legible, were a bit harder to read.

Spent time googling and the consensus seemed to be it was a hot spot which is beyond repair. Priced up a new one, and no idea what's gone on but kindles seem to have increased in price a lot, double or more.

Anyway, today I have fixed it, and offer my advice to anyone else experiencing the same issue. Check your 'hot spot' isn't just a bit of what must be dried food. Yuk. Anyway said dried food removed and kindle as good as new.

I lost more weight. Yay!

Also, something little... I got a Christmas card from a neighbor who remained anonymous. Probably the same person that gave me one on and off throughout the years. Probably doing it for others. I have gotten cards from others from time to time with their apartment numbers too. A Mysterious person to me. Wondering who this nice person is.

We got new episodes of Star War: Skeleton Crew last night, a new Marvel's What If...?, and the Christmas specials for Beyond Paradise, and Doctor Who today. And last week I was finally able to get the Star Wars: The High Republic: The Rising Storm ebook from Libby. I've been wanting to read it for months, but it was always available while I was reading something else, and checked back out by the time I was done. until my timing finally worked out last week.
