I know. It's just one of my pet peeves due to its use as a buzz-word and to promote trendy products, whether food products or others.
I have a degree in Chemistry, among other things.

No disrespect intended. As I said, it's just a peeve that I have due to the term's misuse.
That's not what I mean. What I wanted to say is that I only used the shortcuts for practicality, not by ignorance.
I see where you're coming from.
Yes; very few people are actually allergic to gluten, most people buy gluten-free products because it's trendy. What I say in cases like these is that it's their money to waste. It's of course, beyond ridiculous to buy gluten-free products that AREN'T food!!!
That's the thing...it may be their money to waste, but the trend has been for food products that are gluten-free are more expensive. I DO have an aunt that IS allergic to gluten (and she's a cake-maker, of all things) so in order for her to eat without dying, she must spend more money than the rest of us, simply because of a stupid fad. Freaking pisses me off.
My ex also had a wheat allergy, but this was well before the gluten-free fad.
I had a nice walk in the woods and a nice conversation with my roomie.
