Surely something good happened to you today

One of our neighbours has been in hospital and is being discharged in the next few days, so me and a few others tidied her garden, dug up weeds and cleared dead plants and detritus. She’s an avid gardener but will struggle to keep on top of it for a while, this will help her.

That was a nice thing to do. I wish I had neighbors like you. My neighbors had a shouting match right outside my window at 4am.

I do consider myself very lucky to live on such a considerate street. I have been through the neighbors from hell though. I did once live in a middle flat between a drug dealer and a sex worker. They were both thoroughly nice people, though I never used their services.

we had a fire drill earlier today and fortunately (it's a very cold day) it had to be cut short from 45 mins to 5 mins (YAY!!!) as the fire brigade had to attend a real fire at the other end of the town and therefore no time to play with us. (Our fire prevention deputy is chief of the local fire brigade which is why our fire drills usually are hot candidates - pardon the pun - for the special effects Oscar :D)

I remember in college when there was a fire drill I’d learn to sneak out the back to avoid the lecture.

I want to yell at them, you realize this crap increases the likelihood of deaths right? If most fire alarms are fires, I race out in my underwear ifvI have to no matter how cold it is. If they are mostly drills where I will be lectured for 20 minutes in 20 degree weather, I’ll grab at least my coat and shoes.

I can see that. I know most people certainly walked very casually during fire drills at all of my schools and also when there were real fires (to be fair, my high school was pretty damned fire-proof as a mostly concrete structure).

The issue wasn’t the walls so much as the carpets.
