Spoilers Supernatural - Season 12

I really liked this episode, despite the very odd ending--were they running short and needed 30 seconds of filler? The scenes with Dean in front of the mirror were great; the obvious parallels to Alzheimer's made it very touching. I think it's pretty clear that we will see the Grimoire again--and whatever Rowena will do with it. I like they are giving her a bit more depth--not just a simple cartoonish character. Still, this season is all over the place. I wish it was a bit more focused.

Tonight's episode isn't over yet, but...I'm struggling with it. It's one of those "Roshomon" type stories, where they tell the same span of time from a bunch of different perspectives, jumping backwards and forwards, instead of a linear story. And the tone was all over the place....parts of it were goofy (the title cards and the time with the ticking watch), and parts of it weren't. Stylistically it represents the biggest problem with this season: it's disjointed and all over the place. It was confusing to try to watch, frankly.

But then the last minute...WHOA DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!?!?!

That was a very strange episode -- not sure if I liked it or just found it annoying. Great reveal at the end, though!

Crowley was the hero in this story. He could've just said, "Screw you Winchesters!" and left them to die, but he tried to bargain with Ramiel, who, of course, was after the pistol that Mary stole from him. Then Crowley went on to save Castiel's life by unleashing the power of the lance. (Since I haven't been watching this show, I didn't realize Mary had been secretly working with the British MoL.) Crowley's minions had "searched the entire house" for the pistol but weren't able to find it. The guy in the cage made me scratch my head.

I thought this was a great episode.

Another Yellow-Eyed Demon-- and now we know what they are, and how many more there are (and they probably won't be happy about Ramiel-- can't wait to meet Dagon). The Colt returns. We get a little flashback that adds insight into how Crowley became King of Hell. Crowley saves the day in general and Cass in particular. And... yeah, Lucifer. I thought that was him.

The only disturbing thing was Mom Winchester's deepening involvement with the British MOL. I have a feeling that this is what will be the death of her. She not only lied to the boys about the real reason for the mission, but she didn't fess up when it looked like Ramiel would kill them all.

And Cass got all mushy when he thought he was going to die. Aww. :adore:

I thought this was a great episode, too.

So many great callbacks to Tarantino films: from the title of the episode, to the overlapping segments with their own title cards, to a mysteriously desired item being in a box that glows when opened, and we even got a slo-mo walk of our protagonists down the street after breakfast, Resevoir Dogs-style. The guy that plays Loki on the show did a great job directing this ep.

Loved the flashback to season six and the re-emergence of the Colt. My mouth dropped when I realized the cameo at the end. The prince of Hell was a cool character and I like that there's other princes and princesses roaming around out there, especially if one of them is named Dagon (I wonder how closely she'll tie into Lovecraft's version of Dagon). Michael's lance was also a nifty little bit of business -- too bad it was apparently so fragile that Crowley could snap it in twain.

I hope the BMoL storyline doesn't lead to Mary's death. I really like her character, secrets and all.

^^ I really want Mary to become a permanent part of the team. It's a lot of fun when the boys have their mom as a backseat driver. :rommie:

And the Lovecraft connection is exactly why I can't wait to meet Dagon. Ramiel mentioned that she was already taking an interest in things, so she should be popping up as soon as she hears he was lanced.

The yellow eyed demon was a prince of hell. What was the demon that wiped out the American MOL. The ones Cain created.

yeah except Roshomon was actual different perspectives. This.. really wasn't. I thought they tried to be stylistic but the material was weak. I think the choppiness contributed nothing, no tension, no aha moments, nothing. Just kind of repetitive.

Be nice to see what is happening with Mary.. is she stringing the BMOL along? Does she have an agenda we don't know?

I thought Lucifer was still out there after he possessed Bruce Springsteen.

Then he possessed the President of the United States and created hellspawn baby, then the Winchesters used some sort of magic Men of Letters egg to zap him back to hell.

Say what you will about season 12 and its aimless wandering and uneven stories...

...but with the exception of one contrived explanation and one of those godawful retcon flashbacks (a la "you thought I drank the poisoned wine but what you DIDN'T know was that I added an antidote before I drank it!"), tonight's show is EXACTLY how season 12 should be done. A genuinely interesting case of the week, with some good mythology tie-ins.

More like this please...

I liked the MacLeod family dynamics. I had almost forgotten about Gavin, Crowley's son, who was abducted from his original timeline by Abaddon, preventing his death and altering the course of history, which eventually led to Gavin's fiancee Fiona becoming a vengeful ghost. So in essence, the brothers Winchester restored the "original" timeline by sending Gavin back to the past.

Very appropriate ending to this episode. Good to see the Crowley/MacLeod family is as harsh and vengeful as ever. *daaaaaaaaaamn*
