Supernatural 5x10 "Abandon All Hope" spoilerish/discussion

i don't even mind the comedy, just so long they have plenty of mythos to go with it, I'll be a happy camper.

Fantastic episode. One of the best they've ever done. Ben Edlund is a genre genius. Angel of Death. Satan. Hot rods. Guns. Devil Dogs. Hot chicks. The end of the world. Could you get more Heavy Metal then this episode?

I thought Jo and Ellen's death was one of the best written things they've ever done. Fantastic death scene. But it's becoming such a cliche on this show when they kill off supporting characters in gruesome ways. I knew that the only reason they brought them back this season was to kill them off. It's a little too Whedonesque for my tastes. I'm thinking Bobby is going to die the worst out of all of them for lasting this long.

Oh, and for those that have read Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaimen: OMFG IT'S CRAWLEY FROM GOOD OMENS!! I mean, it's clearly meant as an homage to the point where it was almost a cameo. He even was British and funny and out to save the world for selfish reasons like Crawley was. If Azaraphale the Angel shows up, I'll die of geeky joy.

And what was the point of burning the photo at the end? They expected to die.

Hot damn, Ellen too!? I knew something would happen as soon as they took the picture but man, two deaths!
Ballsy!

They burned the photo because there was no body left to burn. They couldn't go back to town to look for the pieces of what was left of Ellen and Jo. Hunters are burned. Burning the picture was symbolic for them. Bobby had a negative, I'm sure.

Ahhh yes.. I didn't even think of that. Good catch. :techman:

Ok, boy did aI miss a lot when I saw it Thursday (had company distracting me). Missed a small part of the CRD bit (the kissing part, I was wondering WTF Dorian was talking about), missed how they got into Crowley's place, missed the finale scene at Bobby's, missed them making the bombs (and what were in them) and I am sure a few bits of dialogue here and there. Rewatching it an episode that I thought was very good, became great. This or the End for my favorite of the season to date.

Probably the only thing that didn't work for me, is Lucifer's brother metaphor for Sam and him. Because if Sam (or the audience) is supposed to believe the feelings that drove Lucifer to create demons and rend the world asunder is close to Sam waiting a normal life, or Sam's feelings of self worth due to his demonic heritage are even close then sorry but we aren't that dumb.

I also missed Castiel taking them away. I thought they were still there to witness Death.

Othello

The reason I wanted to end with them being taking back to Bobby's home and finding it destroyed and him dead, is that one it would really surprise the audience (not to mention just kill Sam and Dean). Sure the death of Ellen and Jo are going to have an effect on those two, but frankly there is no one they are currently closer to. And on a character front, I can't think of anything else that would shake up the status quo or show how serious the situation is truly gotten on a character level (well besides Sam or Dean actually becoming a Angel Condom.

And war (which this is) takes people out without warning. Wars hit on many fronts. An often surprisingly.

We the audience, and the characters knew that there was a good chance that people would die (we knew or shouldn't have for those shocked that Ellen and Jo were goners). So there is nothing shocking or surprising about their deaths (except how they played it, which I loved). But having Booby also die (or at the very least) would have been an extremely powerful epilogue to the show. A great way to really show how bad things can be.

And frankly we already have a very legitimate reason for this to happen. Meg. She knows where he lives. Knows how important he is to both Sam and Dean. And knows what part he played in her being sent to hell, and later being taken out by Bobby himself. Then having Bobby be the one to ruin her revenge on Sam and Dean later.

Trust me, Meg should want him dead. And she should want that to cause has much pain to Dean and Sam as possible before they are dealt with.

^ You know there is such a thing as an Edit button.
Yes I am aware, but half the posting I do is at work where I have just seconds to post. And I hate to waste it on correcting my grammar/spelling and general train of thought.

The rest I post at home, where my monitor is about 15 ft away from where I am setting. Between a wireless connection on my keyboard and mouse, that often gives out and not being able to read my posts without getting up and walking to the monitor to proof, I tend to even make more mistakes at home.

Just this post took 5 different trips to verify.

So I rarely do it.

As for not editing to post together, I didn't realize I had two posts about the same topic, the next was intended as a separate point.
