That was FUCKING AWESOME.............
I loved it, I absolutely loved it. One of the greatest episodes that Supernatural has produced.
Often shows with a large mythology (BSG, X-Files, DS9, Lost, Babylon 5) have episodes that tie together past threads and then open themselves to new aspects. But I don't think I have seen a show that did it so well, with nothing feeling forced or out of place.
I mean I love Supernatural, but in many ways I was more impressed with tonight's plot and setup then any other episode.
Acting, Now normally SN has two strong leads, a good guest star and then some questionable ones. Across the board strong to great performances.
Not only was this plot and mythos heavy, it had a tremendous emotional core.
We see that Castiel shares the same habit as YED in proving their point. To get Sam to believe him, YED lets him see the past. Castiel manages to bring Dean to the past to witness.
Even the humor of this episode was muted and appropriate, always in character and fitting the situation.
What is interesting is that while I always assumed that Ruby as a sinister agenda, I never really thought it was machinations that YED might have set in motion himself.
Dean's reactions to his father, to his mother, to the description of a demon with Yellow eyes were spot on.
Dean banter with YED was awesome. THe taunting. Dean confidence in killing him, YED cocky attitude that this man certainly couldn't do it, plays so well into his actions towards Dean later in their confrontations both in the cabin and in the graveyard.
Some might not by Dean's change from 2nd season What Is and What SHould never be where he is willing to give up this nice safe life to save others, but to me it makes perfect sense.
Family has always been supremely important to Dean, and in What IS he still had the most important part of his family.
But after that episode what happened, Dean got to leave his absolute worst fear the death of his brother.
For Dean to be able not only to save his mom, but his Dad, and have a future where his family is safe, where Sam never would be killed. Yeah, he could live with it.
And let me tell you, I can't wait for next episode...Dean is going to be pissed, I mean sooooo pissed.
I loved absolutely loved the look Dean gave Castiel when Castiel (in his manner) basically said will take Sam out.
And I just want to point out this is the third episode, and we haven't had a bad episode, haven't even had an average episode or just a good episode. Everything so far as been very good to great.
I love this season.
