Superman

The only thing wrong with the Donner cut is that it takes out one of Superman's best lines:

"General...would you care to step outside?"

Somehow, the bit about "freedom of the presss" doesn't have the same gravitas. The original line was much more menacing, like Supes and Zod are gonna have a SERIOUS throwdown.
True, that's a loss. Definitely a moment where Lester's theatrical version wins.

Okay, sorry to back track the convo so much, but I'm confused on something.

As I gleamed from the OP and following couple pages of posts it's assumed the OP didn't like Supergirl's Superman because he lost (or ended in a draw) in a fight with her. ... Right? So it was assumed to be something of a "Men-nist" post and being upset about a emasculated character, right?

But... Hasn't Supergirl always been shown to be a bit more powerful than Superman? The idea being he was raised on Earth since a baby and "held back" his strength and powers to some level because he didn't want to risk harming humans whereas Kara didn't quite have these compulsions since she arrived here as a teenager? She doesn't want to hurt or harm people any more than Superman does necessarily but she also hasn't lived her entire life, or was raised her entire life, to pull her punches.

There have also been comics versions that suggested she was stronger because she spent more time in space than he did during her Earth transit, and so sucked up more unfiltered sunlight (IIRC).

But really, nothing good ever comes of discussing the subject.

The Silver/Bronze Age Supergirl's powers were portrayed as being on par with her cousin's. Since the Kryptonian Supergirl returned to continuity about 15-20 years she has been portrayed as being at a higher power level than Superman.

Some people on this board have serious problems that Superman lost in a fight to Supergirl in the CW series--but they have more of a problem that Superman made a point of telling Kara that she beat him because she was stronger and that he was okay with that. Apparently that undermines his status as the most powerful hero. I argue that Superman's strength lies in more than just his powers and that it is entirely in character for him to accept defeat graciously.

I was limiting my own list to feature films, so the serials didn't qualify, but yeah, they're a lot of fun.

Alyn's version seemed larger than life--more than just some guy in a costume, but selling the unique nature of Superman.

But, this now:

Reeves gives Reeve his only plausible competition for Best Screen Superman Ever.

Eyeroll all you want, but the George Reeves TV series was awful; Reeves' dry, tired uncle/camp counselor "Superman" was so lackluster and captured nothing defining or great about the character.. If there was any way to top the worst of the Weisinger/Swan/Plastino era in comics, it was this series. Superman in Name Only...barely.

^ Eh, no point in arguing about Reeves, since it’s obviously entirely subjective. I personally think he possessed enormous charm and charisma as both Clark and Superman, and made it look effortless.

How so?

Name is Kal-El/Clark Kent? Chek.

Cousin to Kara Zor-El/[Linda] Danvers? Check.
In love with Lois Lane? Check.
Best friend is Jimmy Olsen? Check.
Archnemesis is Lex Luthor? Check.
Serves in a league of fellow superheroes including (But not limited to.) Flash, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and a Batperson? Check.

What am I missing, exactly? Oh right...

Take this passive-aggressive bullshit elsewhere.
you don't have him job to supergirl

Why exactly would an actress like to spit on the corpse of a fictional character? Does she have a problem with her time on Lois and Clark?
If I remember correctly, her career pretty much died immediately after the show. Took Desperate Housewives to get her back on track. That was 1997 to 2004.

To be fair, the George Reeves series was a kid's show. The characters even hocked cereal.

Did they want kids to start smoking? Undoubtedly. But adults eat cereal too. ;)
