Superman

No idea, mate. I stopped watching Flash religiously after season 3. I still contend season 1 is the best because it reflects what's best about the Flash's career and dueling against the rogues.

Seasons 1 and 2 were amazing! Season 3..... Had a great idea with some flawed stuff for sure. 4..... How about we simply don't adres that. 5 actually had an incline with some bad stuff as well. And 6.... I'm just so disappointed.

It really is a weird situation, especially given the rest of the franchise. SG is fine but still has its moments. Legends really isn't great, but it's so damn fun it doesn't matter. And Batwoman and BL are really good for the most part. Yet Flash has just completely gone to shit. Even last night's episode, while a marked improvement from the previous stretch was still just barely okay.

None the less, there has been a downward trend across the board as they've continued to add more series, in so far as I feel the first two seasons of Arrow and the first season of Flash stand head and shoulders above everything else. I really wonder if it's a case of way too many cooks making way too much food at once. And as excited as I am for the Superman show, I can't help but wonder if it might be better to start trimming down instead.

Not taking Green Arrow and the Canaries to series would be a good way to start.

I need my Superman & Lois above all else. Black Lightning remains the absolute cream of the Arrowverse crop, and I will never give up on Supergirl (but please, show, do better). The rest I could easily let go (though in fairness, Batwoman is very well done, just not so much my personal groove).

have they even decided on that yet? Some-one posted elsewhere that Katherine McNamara had been booked for some promo spots but don't recall if there was any follow up or whether covid-19 kiboshed it.

I think we gave up on Supergirl in season 3. The stories seemed to get stupider, and the way the characters acted kept getting stupider.

Nope, and I was saying they should decide in the negative.

Supergirl's fourth season was great -- maybe the show's best ever, with Season One its only competition for the title.

I think this is best suited here:

Warner Animation, via EW, has announced a new animated Superman movie, "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow" set in the early days of Superman's career. For instance, Clark is described as "an intern for the Daily Planet" (which is actually a new twist I approve of, makes sense that Clark starts as an intern).

The film features the voices of Darren Criss (Superman/Clark), Zachary Quinto (Lex Luthor) Alexandra Daddario (Lois Lane), Ryan Hurst (Parasite), Brett Dalton (Lobo), Ike Amadi (Martian Manhunter), Neil Flynn (Jonathan Kent), and Bellamy Young (Martha Kent). It's directed by Chris Palmer and written by Tim Sheridan, DC Animation veteran Butch Lukic serves as Supervising Producer. The release is set for this summer, obviously directly to Home Entertainment (digital download, BluRay, etc.).

This video was just posted today on YouTube. Quite nicely done, and certainly timely:

Why only some parts of the world need Superman right now. ;)

Well, that's unfortunate. It's quite a well-done piece, with some legit social and historical perspective, by a guy who really seems to understand Superman.

"Truth, Justice and the American Way!" (Said the guy who lied 24/7 to the people who trusted him).

It's okay, I watched it anyway. Look forward to part 2. Hopefully he pronounces Siegel properly here on in. ;)

Pretty good article here at Birth.Movies.Death., especially the hilarious recap of Action Comics #4:

https://birthmoviesdeath.com/2020/06/03/should-the-next-superman-movie-be-a-period-film

Also features the usual smart and entertaining BMD talkback (including the guy who always posts in character as Terence Stamp's Zod).

I don't know that I actually endorse the idea of a period Superman film (though I might If It Were Done Well). I do, however, second the praise for Tom De Haven's period novel, It's Superman!

If I were magically in charge of Hollywood, I’d order up two period era film series—Superman and Bond. Never happen, but would be nice.

I'm hoping the animation division do an adaptation of Superman Smashes the Klan at some point.
I'm not as big a fan of those DTV animated movies as a lot of people, but I did like the comic story. Though it bugged me every time somebody called Lois "Ms." Lane. Really? 1940s much? The term didn't even exist in common parlance till the '70s.

Okay, another couple of fun videos I ran across. These are two VERY brief hand-drawn Superman animated shorts. They feature John (Haymes) Newton (who played Superboy on the first season of the '80s live-action TV series) as Superman/Clark, and his wife Jennifer as Lois. They also use the music from the 1940s Kirk Alyn Superman serials, as well as (in the second short) from the George Reeves Adventures of Superman TV series.

While I'm at it, thought I'd also post the terrific "Tales of Metropolis" animated shorts WB did a few years back, for anyone who may not have seen those:

How do you think '80s Superman III and more sequels might have gone if Superman hadn't removed Lois's knowledge of his identity at the end of Superman II?

^ It would have finished taking the Salkind's films in the terrible sitcom direction (as opposed to comic relief) started by III with that Pryor buffonery. Lois still knowing what she should not would have transformed her into a running gag, with her pulling her hair out everytime she thought Superman was in any danger, or to ramp up sitcom hijinks, have Lois take advantage of dangerous situations with the expectation that her boyfriend would always protect her. That was one of the neverending plot devices of mid- Golden Age - Silver Age Superman universe titles, and the books were better off when they dropped that nonsense.
