Superman Returns Deleted Scene Now Online

Why wasnt everything bathed in red light, you know from the giant red sun that Krypton orbits.

They could have cut it down slightly in terms of time, but I thought that was an awesome scene and could have really worked well with the movie.

I think this scene would have worked as a flashback with the Superman commenting on what he experienced.

I had a similar thought for awhile. There is a point in the film when Clark is in his old room at the Kent Farm. He is laying in bed looking at stars painted on the ceiling. One of which is Red. Right before or after this would have been the perfect time for this scene. It could be a dream of him reliving his journey or simply reflecting on what has happened.

I can't believe they spent 10 mil on that and didn't find some way to reincorporate it back into the finished film.

I can't believe they spent $10 million on this scene in the first place. Wasn't it pretty obvious just from the script that it was a bad idea for a modern action movie?

I enjoyed SR, although my perspective on the movie has always been that Richard White was the hero and Superman was a supporting character who got way too much screen time.

This comment could be applied to a whole host of scenes in Superman Returns. This deleted scene is just one in a long line of uninspired, pedestrian, and ultimately boring sequences in a film that did nothing to distinguish itself as anything other than a bore.

Supermannequin indeed.

Here is an extended and fan-made opening to the film that incorporates the "Return to Krypton" scene. I think it works really well, and I much prefer this alternate, extended opening to the actual opening of the film.

I always get the impression that Warner's has these kinds of meetings regarding their super hero films:

Exec 1 - "What's happening in this scene?"

Exec 2 - "I don't know. I don't understand any of this crap."

Exec 1 - "Should we do it?"

Exec 2 - "Well, isn't it what other studios are doing?"

Exec 1 - "I really don't know. I can't keep up."

Exec 2 - "Just do it then. If it's pretty, people will buy it."

Yep, this would have made a good opening. They could have killed the boy off in the sequel and brought in Braniac and all would be well, but WB's couldn't do it. I do have hopes for this new one though.

I disagree about the fan-edited opening. It sucks the punch out of the scene where he lands.

If it had to be incorporated, it'd be best to do it a bit later, shown as a flashback when Ma Kent asks him what he found.

Yeah that fan reedit is really remarkable. I still get chills of Rao going supernova and the shock waves ripping Krypton apart.

For those who have commented that it is soul less...I'm curious if it occurred that maybe that was exactly what Bryan Singer was going for. We know the Kryptonians are stoic, reserved people. They have a science based religion (at least in some of the comic books). I think the scene personally reflects this. It's not supposed to be heart warming and emotional. It's supposed to be cold, ugly, boring and soul less. I think this scene though for me is fantastic because it shows Luthor's heartlessness as well. Lex knew that Clark would not be able to resist returning to Krypton and that Clark's emotion to his home world would override any judgement or logic on his part.

I don't see how it lessens the impact of Martha finding Clark. I mean, the audience knows it is Clark's ship crash landing. We know Martha is going to find Clark. I always thought it was a weak introduction to the Clark/Superman character.

I wish more movies would take the time to let the audience linger over new sights like this. I didn't find it boring, I found it suspenseful. It wasn't cold, it was ... fascinating. I had time to Study Kal El's ship.

^ That is a concept that I love about that scene as well. We get to see inside of Kal-El's crystaline ship for really the first time. I think the novelization describes that he used the 'father crystal" to build it.

Everything that needed to be said about Superman Returns has been said so i won't repeat it (personal opinion.. not as bad as many say but could have been way better).

However i'd liked to be at the conversation where Singer has to explain to the producer and the studio CEO that he's shot a 10 million $ sequence and decided not to use it

Only at the highest levels can you do such things and get away with it.. a normal person would have been fired, quartered and then fed to the dogs for wasting 10 million.
