Why wasnt everything bathed in red light, you know from the giant red sun that Krypton orbits.
I think this scene would have worked as a flashback with the Superman commenting on what he experienced.
Superman being a deadbeat dad was a lame idea, and Singer should have been slapped.
I can't believe they spent 10 mil on that and didn't find some way to reincorporate it back into the finished film.
This comment could be applied to a whole host of scenes in Superman Returns. This deleted scene is just one in a long line of uninspired, pedestrian, and ultimately boring sequences in a film that did nothing to distinguish itself as anything other than a bore.Wasn't it pretty obvious just from the script that it was a bad idea for a modern action movie?

I always get the impression that Warner's has these kinds of meetings regarding their super hero films:
Exec 1 - "What's happening in this scene?"
Exec 2 - "I don't know. I don't understand any of this crap."
Exec 1 - "Should we do it?"
Exec 2 - "Well, isn't it what other studios are doing?"
Exec 1 - "I really don't know. I can't keep up."
Exec 2 - "Just do it then. If it's pretty, people will buy it."
^ LOL. That sounds about right.
Yep, this would have made a good opening. They could have killed the boy off in the sequel and brought in Braniac and all would be well, but WB's couldn't do it. I do have hopes for this new one though. Here is an extended and fan-made opening to the film that incorporates the "Return to Krypton" scene. I think it works really well, and I much prefer this alternate, extended opening to the actual opening of the film.
Excellent point.I disagree about the fan-edited opening. It sucks the punch out of the scene where he lands.
