Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 3

Just a nerdy fanboy note: Luthor's henchman Otis was of course created for Richard Donner's 1978 Superman film, where he was not given a last name. The Supergirl TV series introduced a version of Otis in its fourth season, where he was revealed to be Otis Graves, brother to famous Lex Luthor henchwoman/bodyguard Mercy. I had thought the Graves appellation might stick for subsequent versions of the Otis character, but apparently not; per his prison uniform, S&L's version is named Otis Grisham.

I was hoping for Otis Berg.

I was kind of hoping we'd see that Luthor knew that Clark was Superman, but they worded it just ambiguously enough we're still not 100% certain.

I can't be the only one that sees "human Thanos" every time they see Lex. ;)

Nahh, I still see "Jamie Hyneman." With a bit of Walter White thrown in (though I never watched that show). Hmm... could the Walter White image be a factor in why all three recent Lexes Luthor (Cryer, Welliver, Cudlitz) are bald with beards, instead of just bald?

So far, this Lex does not impress me as a character as much as Thanos did. Thanos had nuance and complexity. This guy's just a one-note bully, as far as we've seen.

I thought this season wasn’t going to end on a big cliffhanger

Was mentioned that it was going to have a cliff hanger a few weeks back and people were concerned because the renewal for S4 hadn't been confirmed at the time.

So with the budget being decimated, does 4x01 begin with a time jump and an off hand remark to defeating Doomsday?

Could be fun. Get a black-suit wearing Clark slowly regaining his abilities over the season.

But would they have the budget for a black supersuit?

Or would the costume dept need to shoot down the nearest hardware store for a few cans of black spray paint?

You gotta respect how they managed to show that lengthy of a fight while actually getting around budget/effects limitations though. Changing perspective so you were just seeing Superman at times hitting into something, or being pushed up against something and not having to do an effect for this version of "Doomsday". Going wider at times to alleviate not having to see fine detail or anything.

It seems like they could actually 'time-skip' and the season opens with Superman missing and presumed dead. I think most remember the Superman/Doomsday fight ending with both of them killing each other.

With them fighting on the moon maybe have it be the fight ends up on the 'dark side' of the moon and Superman unable to draw any more light from the sun falls into a deep comatose state and then at some point a mission to the moon discovers him.

The fact that they had this ending set before they knew if they'd be picked up really pisses me off. (To be clear, because I love the show.)

On the other hand, if the Lex Luthor plot was entirely a red herring and he really was just eaten alive by Bizarro, that'd certainly play to type with this series.

Well, I take it back, it turns out the thing in the mines in the suit really was Doomsday all along, the behind-the-scenes statements at the beginning of season two weren't lying to us, just playing with us.

I do have to wonder about exactly how far back the cast cuts were decided on, since there did seem to be elements paving the way for them here. Judging by how the episode went, it would've been relatively easy to edit out anything with Sam after he was kidnapped once Walsh decided not to return for season 4, so they can say Luthor killed him off-screen. Setting up to reduce the Ironses to recurring was probably something they were thinking about doing anyway, judging by them mooting moving to Metropolis. In any case, it's possible (maybe even "apparent") the episode was written and filmed with some amount of flexibility involved, depending on how things went with the renewal.

I am still thinking this version of Luthor is just a bit much.

If they were going to do a short-version of the 'reign of supermen' you would think John Henry would need to be a part of that since he was in the comics and then Jordan likely would be the Conner (Superboy) replacement.

Not sure what happens with Eradicator since they already had it and destroyed it on the show.

First line from season 4:

"After you defeated Doomsday, Sam retired from the DOD, John and Natalie moved to Metropolis, Crissy sold the Gazette and moved to Starling City with Kyle after he and Diggle became Green Lanterns, and we never see Lana anymore, now is the time to focus our efforts on Luthor."
