News Superman & Lois Ordered to Series at The CW

If he doesn't need a team why was he a part of first the Justice Society, and then Justice League, and why does he have a whole family of other Super characters surrounding him?
You know what I mean.

Do I detect a hint of Snyder color filter going on in some of the scenes of that trailer?

Looks awesome, and very different from the other Arrowverse shows or previous Superman shows. They are really leaning hard into the “family drama” aspect. My body is ready.

Ugh, so apparently Clark did hide his true identity from his kids. As I said the other day, I don't like the idea of a parent hiding his children's cultural heritage from them. But maybe that's what Clark means in the trailer when he asks "Am I a bad father?"

The trailer certainly makes it look like a more serious show.

You can't always judge from a single trailer. It's kind of a standard practice for movies, at least, to make multiple trailers that each take a different tone, stressing different aspects of the project. My go-to example is the teaser trailer to the Ghostbusters reboot a few years back, which had an intense and ominous tone and gave no indication that the movie was a comedy. If the trailers for this show follow the common pattern for movies, then the next one after this will give a fuller idea of the plot, and the last one before release will emphasize more of the comedy bits.

Justice League is something completely different to something called Team Arrow or Team Flash.
I'm still not sure what you mean. Superman has been parts of superhero teams going back to his early days, and a lot of the "solo" comics built up a pretty extensive cast of supporting heroes and normal people around him.
That was definitely not the tone I was expecting from the trailer, but it looks really good.

I would rather this show focused on him and his family than bring in some other c list heroes so he could have a team.

Even though I didn't like Man of Steel I got to say I kind of liked the new Superman trailer. Maybe it's because I don't think they will go as far as making him a killer and have people say things like "maybe you should have let them die." Or maybe because it feels very much like a non-CW show. It might actually be good in way that feels relevant like Black Lighting.

I think it would get boring if Superman were the only hero. I like the variety of having different heroes with different abilities. I grew up with superhero shows where the title character was the only superhero in the entire world. I prefer the modern approach where the hero is part of a larger universe of heroes.

I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have another hero every now and then. Just not on the main cast.
Make it a big deal when another hero comes along.

I would be shocked if we didn't end up with at least one of the sons developing powers and becoming Superboy. I'd rather see them bring in at least a couple other super powered characters, it gets boring when we only have one person doing all of the superhero stuff.
I'll admit, the Flash has gone a bit overboard, but Supergirl has kept it at a pretty good level for me with Dreamer, Martian Manhunter and Brainy.

This.

Or this.

(Did I mention the trailer looks awesome?)

I think it takes away to have to many other superpower characters with Superman because in theory Superman is Superman. He should be able to do the tasks of 5 superhero's because he is suppose to be the best of the best. The other point specific to this show is it's suppose to be more about the family drama I think. So I am not sure you need a bunch of superheroes around for the kind of show I think they are making. I would rather see them develop a stable cast of ongoing town folk who they interact with. Make Smallville the town a character of it's own.

They posted a longer synopsis for the show and the special airing after the premiere on Io9's Morning Spoilers that I don't think I've read before.
In SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face-to-face with one of their greatest challenges ever - dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”). The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) enters their lives. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, SUPERMAN & LOIS is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (“The Flash”) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Immediately following the series premiere of SUPERMAN & LOIS, The CW takes fan behind the scenes with the brand new special SUPERMAN & LOIS: LEGACY OF HOPE, with sneak peeks and interviews from the cast of the new series, plus special guests discussing the legacy of the Man of Steel.

Trailer is better, but still not good enough. I think that there is a near certainty that this show will be unwatchable at this point.

:guffaw:

No.

(Though yours is virtually the only negative comment I've read on this trailer all day, so congrats on that, I guess.)

So is this being made by Zack Snyder? It looks like his typical miserable grim n' gritty crap.

How hard would it be to crack open a copy of 'All-Star Superman; and go, "Yes, this is what we should be doing!"

Hoechlin's characterization of Clark is already well-established, and it's the furthest thing possible from Snyderman.

My guess is, this show will demonstrate how to do a serious, grounded Superman story right.
