News Superman & Lois Ordered to Series at The CW

So is it still the CWverse if you watch the episodes on Blu Ray or Netflix? Also if it's the CWverse then it means Supernatural is part of the canon but it's also a tv show in the universe so we are getting into some messy canon issues. Also the CW use to be UPN, sort of which means Star Trek Enterprise and Voyager are canon but none of the other Trek shows. Also Supergirl use to be on CBS which means everything on CBS has also been part of the universe meaning someday when JAG comes back The Flash can help Harm and Sara solve the case of the missing sailor who ran afoul of some international jewel thieves smuggling blood diamonds in secret compartments aboard the missing Sailor's aircraft carrier he was stationed on.

And the staff and students as the Salvatore school could definitely use Constantine and the Legends help fighting all of the monsters that keep showing up.

Every time this thread gets bumped, I hope it's actually going to be something about Superman & Lois, but alas ....

Oh well, there is frustratingly little to talk about these days. Maybe there'll be some actual news and discussion fodder at DC FanDome Part 2 this weekend.

That seems to be nearly every, single thread on here lately. Threads detouring completely off original subject.

To help correct that with in the past week Elizabeth Tulloch posted that she was in Vancouver. No direct mention of the show, visiting a beauty salon. But it’s a good sign she is in town. All American actors have to go through a 2 week quarantine before filming on any Vancouver productions. She and her husband live in Washington state to be close for work.

The TV portion of DC Fan Dome was rescheduled to this Saturday September 12th. We should be getting some details. Even the Flash movie which does not begin filming for a year had concept art.

Batwoman already started shooting, so the other DCW shows (yeah, I'm just going with that now) should be starting up any day now, considering they're all scheduled to premiere in January.

Lately? That's the way the board has always worked. If you want to talk about Superman go visit the flat earther thread and if you want to talk about that head over to the Hulk thread and if you want to talk about Hulk you should visit the 2020 Election thread. :)

Supergirl's per-episode filming schedule is 10 days, so a late September filming start date for a midseason premiere isn't that strange, especially with an episode order of at least 20 episodes.
Keep in mind that there may be changes in the time for filming each episode with all the health and safety measures that need to be put in place. It is not just about physical distancing--it is about cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces daily or after use and about staggering the numbers of people in certain locations as well as limiting the numbers of people on set at any one time. (I am basing this on government requirements for business operation.)

I hope those guidelines also prioritize good indoor ventilation, doing as much outdoors as possible, and mask-wearing. While official guidelines do still recommend disinfecting surfaces, there haven't really been any confirmed cases of anyone getting sick that way. I fear the early emphasis on surface contamination (which was based on lab tests of materials coated with an unrealistically high amount of the virus) has led to a lot of wasted effort on cleaning and disinfection when the emphasis ought to have been on improving ventilation and promoting masks. (And teaching how to wear a mask. I was relieved when I saw outside my apartment window that the building manager had finally, finally started wearing a mask when showing prospective renters around -- until I saw she had her nose uncovered, which defeats the entire purpose. How is it possible not to know how breathing works????????)

They do actually--you can find them online. As for masks, here they are only recommended for use for short periods of time when physical distancing is not possible due to the complications that masks provide---and that they should only be used as a last precaution. Too many people get too confident wearing masks, and damp masks are less effective and all that.

One of the concerns here in the north is that staying outdoors will be more difficult. Restaurants are not looking forward to the end of patio season. I only eat out when I am traveling and only on patios. Otherwise I do take out or room service.

Just watched the Superman & Lois panel at DC FanDome, featuring Hoechlin and Tulloch and showrunner Todd Helbing, with Jim Lee as moderator. Some takeaways:
  • Helbing seems very focused on the characters and the emotional dynamics of the show, much more than the superheroic elements. There's virtually no discussion of the more "comic book" aspects of the series, nor so much as a mention of the villainous "Stranger." This may not fall happily on some ears, but personally, I was impressed that he is thinking so much about these characters as people, and about where they are in their lives, rather than about the superficial mechanics of the Big Bad's nefarious scheme.
  • Helbing also talks about how Superman and Lois function as a team, and how she is as effective in her own capacity as he is in his, fighting for truth and justice with her own set of "powers" and abilities.
  • It's confirmed that the boys are fraternal twins, and that they will be involved in a triangle with Lana's teenaged daughter.
  • Speaking of romantic triangles, I was gratified that Helbing immediately dismissed the idea of one developing among Clark and Lois and Lana. Clark is the last character who would ever be tempted to stray (though Tulloch interjects playfully that maybe Lois shouldn't know that).
  • Helbing confirmed that Superman will be getting a new suit.
Not a huge amount of meat, but still an enjoyable watch, and I continue to be very pleased and encouraged by pretty much everything I hear about this show.

ETA: And here is AV Club's summary report on the panel (or you could just go to the FanDome site and watch the thing):

That sort of seems implicit in any large comic-book universe. I mean, Superman could hop over to Gotham City and clean it up on Clark Kent's lunch hour if he chose to.

I don't know about that. But it's definitely a new angle to the Superman mythos, which may or may not be a good sine.

A good sine:
