News Superman & Lois Ordered to Series at The CW

The term "tone" as used in my comment doesn't just refer to the way a story is told; it refers to what the focus of the story is.

Therefore, Black Lightning's "tone" is that of a Family Drama first and a Superhero series second, and I think that's exactly what we're going to get with Superman and Lois.

This looks a bit fuller.
That's what she said!

I gotta admit the red shorts are starting to look a bit funny these days. What I would do is probably put some red side panels on the upper thighs/groin to give it some of that look but not have to be actual shorts. Then again why does Superman need a belt if not to hold up his shorts?

EDIT: I see in the new picture there's already some dark areas on the side, I made those red to break up all the blue and I darkened the belt a little.

Thought about responding to the Republican thing (because no), but pretty sure theenglish was just tweaking thribs.

The family-centric thing is fine and may be right, but I very much doubt it will be "tonally similar" to Black Lightning otherwise.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see what the tone ends up being. CW does seem to be skewing older these days as their median audience hits their mid 40s, what with Jared Padlicki headlining a new Walker, Texas Ranger series coming later this year.

Well, that's artwork over-painting a photo of the actor. If the actual costume matches the render, it's generally an enhancement and improvement on the current one - not only the belt, but the considerable streamlining of the cape attachment and improved workmanship on the boots.

It's hard to tell from the paint-over, but I expect that they'll also change the finish on the clasps and buckles to match what they did with the new Supergirl outfit. Superman's version looked kind of cheap next to hers during CoIE, with her cape-clasps and so on being shiny metallic gold, and his were just gold-colored.

I'm not a fan of the shorts, but when they do take the shorts away they need to add something with a bit of color, the belt here is pretty good for that.

In my head, Hoechlin's Superman might have been intended to be a limited character. The details on the suit kinda reflect that. But they kept bringing him back, and maybe there wasn't budget or time to redo the less than optimal suit, so they went with what they had.

Now that they've committed and greenlit a series, there's money to fix things. Unfortunately, money can't make Tyler Hoechlin a believable Superman ... :techman:

Oh, that's absolutely the case. I'm just a little disappointed that when they made the new SG suit take cues from his suit, but with more fit and finish (as befits a lead character and a production team with a few more years of experience under their belts), they didn't touch his up to match. But, then, I know very little about costume design, it's entirely possible that plating or refinishing those pieces of his suit would've been a lot more trouble than it seems.

It's not a belt. On his world it means "hope." ;)

Personally, I like the trunks. Glad they're back in the comics, wish they'd return in live action. But I guess we're too ... sophisticated for trunks now? Or something?

Anyway, they're preferable, but hardly a make or break issue one way or the other.

Oh, good lord.

It's Superman. His suit is blue, red, and yellow.

The trunks are necessary to keep his super Kryptonian penis from annihilating the universe with its extrahuman awesomeness.

Can we please move on? :techman:

Don't know what thribs are. I think Lois was a Republican in Smallville--but I was just responding sarcastically to something somebody said earlier in the thread.

For decades prior to the New 52, all people kept talking about was how stupid and outdated the trunks were--then when DC finally did away with them all many people could do was complain. You can't please everybody I guess.
