The MJ of the Raimi movies wasn't the MJ of the comics, though. She was a girl-next-door MJ who becomes a stage actress rather than a sassy bombshell who becomes a supermodel/soap star.

Your Superman "experience" seems very limited.
The films you listed are mostly genre films and therefore are not "normal" movies. Amy Adams credits are probably a lot more "normal" than you think.

Well, I seem to have a few people that agree that she's not a household name, so there is that. As for my superman experience, here's basically what I can recall seeing/reading involving Superman
TV/Direct to DVD movies:
All of Superman TAS
All of Justice League
All of Smallville
A few episodes of the old Black and White Superman
A few episodes of Lois & Clark
Every DC Direct Animated movie with him except The Dark Knight Returns
Movies:
Superman 1 & 2, and good portions of 3 &4
Superman Returns
Comics:
About 25-30 issues of Silver age superman (from various DC Showcase collections)
Some Golden Age Superman stories
All of the JMS started "Grounded" arc before the reboot
The first six issues of All Star Superman
Various issues of Action comics
A lot of Justice League comics
A lot of various event comics and misc appearances, way too many to list
I'd say that, in general, I have a good amount of experience with Superman. As for "normal" movies, what exactly would those be? The Muppets? Julie & Julia? Even though I may prefer certain kinds of movies, Adams hasn't been in a lot of movies directed toward a general audience (and not ones specificly made for women/kids/independant film fans). She's been in a few, but what does it matter?
My point was that it wasn't that unusual that I didn't know her, and other people have agreed that she's not a household name. I can count the number of movies I've seen with Angelina Jolie on one finger (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which I saw on TV when I was bored) but I still know who she is. Same with actors like, for example, Clint Eastwood (I don't actually think I've every watched a full movie he's been in). I don't need to have seen many (or even one) movie neccesarily to know who an actor is if they're very famous. Adams isn't super famous, regardless of what my movie tastes are.
Is the Amy Adams famous or not question answered now? If I'm making big posts in this thread, it might as well be more on topic, if more rage filled, stuff about the movie than arguing over whether the bland Lois in what looks to be a horrible Superman movie is very famous or not.
I didn't watch the comic, but the movie that Raimi made. Mary Jane in the movie is Peter's next door neighbor and friend, who intends to be an actress. None of that has anything necessarily to do with being "a superhot model." She's pretty enough, and Toby was dorky enough.
Action Comics and Superman are his main "venues". If you haven't read those in the last 10-30 years then your experience in where the character has been and is going is limited.
"Normal" movies are RomComs, Dramas, Comedy and biopics. I'd say a large percentage of her body of work was geared to general audience.
The point was she's been in popular films, was nominated for an Oscar and has a certain level of name recognition.

So? I still know what superman is like (and I'd bet I've read/seen more with him than Snyder or Nolan). I don't need to have read every superman comic in the last 80 years to know what he's like. Moody, angsty, and having an earth Dad that tells him to let kids drown and having Jor El be some kind of fighter? Not superman. Bearded "hobo"? Not superman (outside of a hilarious looking silver age comic, apparently, and even then he didn't have a beard). He seriously looks like Christian bale's type of character in the bearded hobo clips, and all the clips look like generic dark superhero movie #456.
The Dark Man of Steel Rises just looks bad. Every clip makes it look worse. I haven't seen a superhero movie thats made me just shocked at how stupid it looked since Dark Knight Rises was showing tV spots/trailers. It will probably not be as bad as The dark Knight (I don't know if its possible to make a worse superhero movie than that) but its almost certainly going to suck. I'll admit that it is possible that it could be watchable (Snyder did direct a version of Watchman that I could sit through, even if the story still sucked) and its even possible it won't be as much of a Nolan superhero movie as I think, but it still looks like a bad superhero movie that will make Superman IV look like The Avengers.
This is my last say on the subject, as it's not about Superman...
Really? Because the theater I saw it in wasn't full of critics. I'm not a critic. And everyone really enjoyed the movie. An art film doesn't make 133 million dollars world wide.
It's a FUN movie. It's got a lot of heart and soul. And incredibly charming performances. It's not an art film. It's done by the same guy who did the OSS 117 movies.
AND, the reason it's a silent movie is actually a part of it's story. I can't say more without spoiling it.
Why is black and white ok but not sound? That just seems random.
They could do movies with dialogue. They used cards. You mean they couldn't do movie with sound, yes. Just like they made black and white movies because they couldn't do them with color.
It was a story telling CHOICE in The Artist.
It's confusing and laughable because you didn't see it. You are bound by a very narrow taste. And that's sorta sad.

Are silent films are actually the general audience? Yes, it must be so fun to see what wikipedia calls a romantic comedy-drama, without dialog. What is a "romantic comedy-drama" even supposed to be? I'm assuming thats just a fancy way of saying "chick flick". A french made, silent, black and white romance movie is definately an artsy movie, regardless of how much money it made. I may not have the most common tastes, but I refuse to believe that the average guy went and saw the Artist, atleast of their own free will. There is no way its a movie for the average person.
Why not just wait to see the movie before you condemn it?
If you don't want to see the movie because it will suck, why waste time and energy arguing about it?

Dunst pretty clearly wasn't playing Ultimate Mary-Jane. In fact, I'm not sure Ultimate Spider-Man even existed at the point that the script was written and the film was cast.
Ultimate Spider-Man started in 2000, Spider-Man came out in 2002, so unless they were filming for two years (and seeing as 9/11 caused a scene to get scraped thats very unlikely not to mention a Green Goblin suit that looks like the Ultimate Green Goblin design). So it did exist at that point and time.
