Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

The thing is even if you take away the 'stupid' trunks you're left with a big blue onesie which looks stupider.

If you're gonna change the costume, then change it.

Not every superhero is lucky enough to have armor as a costume!

You really think they're gone?
Really?
I give it two years, tops. Probably less.

I'm sure they'll tweak the design a little (maybe give him a better belt and boots, or ditch the high collar), but I'd be surprised if the trunks themselves were brought back at this point.

Especially if the new movie proves to be a huge hit and people get used to seeing him that way.

The red trunks are still used on "Young Justice", in the new "Unbound" animated movie, in the "Earth One" graphic novels and will be used in the upcoming "Adventures of Superman" digital comics series. So, while the monthlies use that pile of shit that Jim Lee designed back in the 90s, the versions aimed at the general public (except for MoS, obviously) use the red trunks.

October, 2011 people were predicting "less than a year." If folks keep moving the goal posts, maybe a decade or two down the line they'll be right.

Things always return to status quo. Green Arrow, Hal Jordan and Barry Allen were always coming back. Superman and Spiderman's marriages were always doomed to disappear.
There's a reason the Earth 2 heroes were basically still wearing the same costumes since the 40s.
And don't even get me started on the current Earth 2. Those costumes will be back to normal in a nanosecond.

"Lee's editorial advice to his writers in the early days of Marvel Comics seems more resonant than ever: superheroes should have only the "illusion of change," forever appearing to break new ground but always returning firmly to the status quo."

:guffaw:

Looked at through the correct end of the telescope, what that says is that some niche-targeted nonsense still uses the silly old Speedo while Warner Bros has abandoned the design for the big-budget movie that's the cornerstone of their future plans for the property.

:guffaw:

Yeah the red trunks aren't coming back any time soon...at least in the main New 52 continuity. If you want the red trunks, then I suggest those that do pick up the upcoming "Adventures of Superman" digital series. DC seems to be very pleased with the current design of the costume.

Coming late, but OMG, I really love that poster.

Re the underpants - I've found it difficult to take the whole 'underpants on the outside' thing since the brilliant cartoonist Steve Bell started drawing former UK Prime Minister John Major with his Y-fronts outside his suit in the early 1990s. For example:

I like. As for the red trunks thing, I think at this point they've become such a joke to the non-fans that it would be best if they stayed gone. I don't think the new designs in the comics and movie are to bad, although if I were designing them I would have tried to find a way to incorporate more red into them.

^Jokes about Superman wearing his underpants outside his trousers have been a staple for comedians and pop-culture references for years now.

And Spider-Man shooting webs. Guess he should stop doing that now. Or Batman hanging out with a little kid. So long, Robin! And Hulk? Just needs a nice cup of tea and a sit down.

It's worth pointing out that nowhere in the past three movies did Batman hang out with a little kid.

Haven't heard any Spiderman web-slinging jokes that I recall, so I can't comment on that one.
