Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

No surprise at all. If MoS is a big hit, I also expect WB to try to extend Henry Cavill's contract to at least six films (to account for potential Superman and JL trilogies).

Why is it that super-hero costumes have to look like kick balls? I've never understood the argument. Something about texture? Well why doesn't everyone's clothes look like a kick ball?

It's the in thing at the moment. Like leather before that and muscle suits before that.

I'm not a fan of this take at all. Like the Spidey suit, it stinks of someone trying to stamp their own shit all over it as though decades worth of nobody complaining needed addressing.

Yes, I certainly hope that they have him in both, rather than two different continuties, as has also been mooted. Having said that, if they must keep them separate, I'd love to see Brandon Routh get another shout (pigs flying, snowballs roasting in hell, etc etc).

I think it has more to do with the rise of HD TV. With the old standard resolution something like the material of the suit would be fairly unnoticable, but with today's hi-def, you have to play up to it, just as it's changed how makeup is done.

well this new to me

Wow, I've never seen these either. For a rubber muscle suit, it actually looks pretty decent (and much better than some of the concept artwork and wacky prototypes that we've seen for this movie).

This is probably before Superman dies and needs a neon lighted suit to stay alive and then that weird suit with long haired Cage.

That's a nice looking costume and Cage looks good in it. I can believe that he's Superman.

I figured it was the result of Burton being reigned in a bit.

I just found this photoshop job...

It looks like a nice compliment to the Burton/Schumacher Batman.

I'm not opposed to adding some texture to the suit, this just seems a little overdone to me. I think that if they had applied a similar texture as the one used on the Superman Returns costume it would look better.

The new photos of Cage in the more "traditional" suit show an interesting feature - the shield appears to be more closely based on the costume worn by George Reeves than on anything else.

The Superman action figure actually looks better than the real thing. Brighter colours, no silly textures and the waist articulation gives the illusion of a break in the blue bodysuit.
