TheSeeker was right. The second one is technically fairly faithful, it just looks stupid because of Nicholas Cage. The point being, this "redesign" people are complaining about is a tweak. That was a horrid redesign.

There's no reason to fear modernity and change even if it isn't necessary. He still looks like Superman overall, so I don't see anything radical with the outfit. I would support a gold (or actually, red) belt, but I see nothing wrong with the movie's interpretation. We're not talking about Tim Burton's suit here.

The Burton suit was fine. They even retooled the comics to go more that direction, all black, after the movie. Prior he was still wearing the blue/grays.

It was the Schumacher suit with nipples that was an atrocity.

Tim Burton Superman suit, not Batman suit.

Ah, with that clarification in mind I agree.
