Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Lois has to be hot? I mean, I guess so, because plain women aren't allowed near cameras, and the porno movies comic book artists trace from tend to be your standard Brazzers-type productions.

People say that Superman, being the world's most desirable man (which isn't true, there's no particular reason to believe he even has a normal dick, and more seriously he's a pretty inaccessible mate, especially when JMS is writing him) needs the world's most desirable woman. Here's why that's stupid.

Superman is unlikely to care about looks at all. To him, we are all just piles of infrared-radiating meat and organs with bone inside. I bet he spent the first month of having x-ray vision willing himself unhorrified. I really doubt he cares about wrinkles or love handles, you know? He can see your shit. Before you shit it.

Also, crucially, a lookist Superman is all kinds of wrong.

But anyway, if I were casting, I'd pick Zooey Deschanel. Pete Woods did, and it seemed to work out okay. But I'd also put her in a touch of age-makeup, because at 30 she's too young. I might also send her to acting school, but just being able to say the lines in The Happening probably deserves its own special kind of Oscar.

I still think Amy Adams as Lois Lane is a bad, bad idea. She isn't glamorous at all compared to the supporting actresses in the movie - Diane Lane, Julia Ormond and Antje Trau - and she just isn't the 'Lois' type in my Supes fanboy mind. Neither was Erica Durance mind you, but Durance at least had the sheer hotness factor about her, which Adams definitely...lacks. If anything they should just swap out Antje Trau to be Lois Lane and Amy Adams to be Faora. That'd make more sense.

And theres me thinking your supposed to pick actors based on ability and not their FHM rating

A couple of the posters I like and admire most on this board are or were fans of Smallville. These are people of perspicacity, wit and taste.

Nonetheless every time I tried to watch the show, it was clearly mediocre and trivial crap as far as I'm concerned. C'est la guerre.

Absolutely Right(TM).

Since when has Live action Lois ever been Glamorous? She's always cute and/or spunky (Noel Neill, Phyllis Coates, Margot Kidder, Terri Hatcher, Kate Bosworth). The one from Smallville, I guess is fairly glamorous, but, pics I've seen of her in character haven't been glamour shots, her beauty seems to be played down.

Amy Adams is not a bad, bad idea. She was an inspired choice and a multiple time Oscar nominee. It is okay if you dislike the actress but to merely dismiss her and declare she's not glamorous is silly to me. Much like it is silly that she is an Old Hag as I think Yoda has mentioned a couple of times. I still don't understand how one can say Amy Adams is not hot.

Every bit of news that has come out about production on this film has me seriously doubting my wanting to see it.
Mostly due to the pic of the costume and appearrance of Caville.
Although he does look the part, with the square jaw and facial features, I have been looking at that costume and the more I look at it the more I am disliking it Except for the cape of course. (thank god it at least goes past the back of his knees!)
And the garrish chest symbol....I always hated the golden age version. Perhaps in the film we can call his Kryptonian name: Kal-L?

Forthcoming films regarding two of my favourite characters---Superman and Spider-Man respectively---and I'm can't find myself getting hyped or even much interested about either of them.

Nolan's Batman on the other hand has really gotten me eager to see it.

Of course, a lot has to do with expectation and past experience. Nolan is two-for-two and so far he seems to be sticking to his proven successful approach. Live-action Superman has been bust and hit-and-miss since 1978. I will go so far as to say I'm cautiously optimistic for Man Of Steel, but I'm far from sold yet. And at this point I have zero interest in the forthcoming Spidey film after really enjoying Raimi's version (even if #3 could have been better).

"Man of Steel" starts filming in Vancouver the middle of next month. I'm gonna try and see if I can pull off a Jackson Archer :) Don't think there will be any cool documentary but I'll see if I can get some photos.

Why would you want to get a restraining order filed against you :guffaw:

Cool, look forward to seeing what you be able to share

I try to read ComicBookMovie...and Jesus! The writers and commenters there make the boobs at AintItCool sound like combinations of Einstein and Cary Grant by comparison.

I was very dubious about this movie when it was announced and based on early descriptions of the approach being taken. However, every bit of news - casting, visuals, the synopsis and so on - has gotten me more and more interested. I'm quite looking forward to it now.

The only possible explanation I can come up with is "I just don't like white women." And that's racist.

I'm with you there.
I know it's a very different kind of movie, but I thought she was great in Enchanted. IMO it takes a really talented actress to pull off a role like that, and manage to make her believable (well as believable as a character like that can be) and not annoying. If a less talented actress had played Giselle, then the movie would have been a disaster.

Maybe it's the red hair, but I can easily see her playing the same kind of sweet but feisty Lois that Noel Neill did.

Hopefully this Lois won't turn into the same gooey eyed schoolgirl at the first sight of Superman though. It would be nice to see her start out a bit more intrigued or skeptical at first, and let the interest build a bit more gradually.

BTW, I know this isn't the art forum, but here's a Cavill sculpt I'm working on if anyone wants to see. I realize the likeness still has a ways to go.
