Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Also, as far as we know, much of the supporting cast such as Perry and Jimmy haven't been cast if, of course, they are in it.

^ That's true. Only Lois has been cast from the Planet. I'm wondering if Snyder will be doing casting during production like Nolan has been for "The Dark Knight Rises". All the main casting seems to have been done for both films prior to production.

^ I wonder also if like Batman Begins, they're saving the best-known villain in that hero's gallery - then The Joker, now Lex - for the sequel.

^ If the rumors are true that the plot will be about Clark "finding" himself and be a personal discovery film before heading to Metropolis then perhaps they are indeed saving Lex for a sequel. Perhaps Lex not being in the film (as of now) will satisfy those fans tired of seeing him all the time.

I don't know if I like the rumored direction of the film with Clark finding himself. I know it can make for an interesting character piece, but, generally, I associate that theme with "moodiness" and "melodramatic angst". While those elements worked to varying degrees in Smallville and Superman Returns, I was hoping to see something different.

Oh well, I'm sure it will be fine. It's Superman. How bad can it be?

::goes to watch Superman IV::

^ I'm guessing something like Batman Begins, with the first half being our hero 'finding himself', the second half returning home to confront his destiny.

With David Goyer and Jonah Nolan writing the screenplay I have always suspected that we would get a similar story structure to "Man of Steel" that was used for "Batman Begins".

^Which is somewhat amusing as the structure of Batman Begins was modeled on the structure of Superman: The Movie.

Lex not in eh? That sucks. I thought he would have been pretty important for him to be in. Maybe not front and center but more like as a character in the background built up to be a major player later on in a sequel.

SR and Smallville might have taken the angst a bit too far, but the basic idea of having Clark question his place in the world, or wondering how best to use his powers is still a really GOOD one I think.

This is the aspect I find the least interesting, mainly because Superman Returns and Smallville have beaten it into the ground.

I can see your point. I'd like to see a Superman who has FUN with his powers sometimes...

Well I was referring to the initial, early years. By the time he's older, I'd expect he'd be more at peace with himself and able to have a little more fun.
