Superhero statue/AF collection

The Bat-vehicle collection alone is pretty cool. But the massive collection of superheroes is pretty impressive. Some of the pictures reminds me of the cover of a comic for an ultimate DC/Marvel team-up epic.

I've got over a hundred Trek figures, but most are still carded so it wouldnt look as impressive as this!

Impressive collection!

I've bought a few, but my main problem is lack of space and no place to really display them since I tend to gravitate towards the larger models. I tend to focus more on statues/figures of actresses, because they're almost impossible to find. And it has to actually LOOK like the actress (I passed on the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman statue because it looked nothing like her).

My latest major acquisition was a 12-inch Black Widow done as an almost photo-real representation of Scarlet Johannson.

(Same company put out a Scarlett-as-Silken Floss from The Spirit that was equally photo-real, but I never got it and I'm kicking myself as it's impossible to obtain now. They have a nice one of Jessica Biel from Blade Trinity I'm considering.)

My favorite is an 18-inch figure of The Bride from Kill Bill - Uma Thurman, ahoy. My rarest is a Lara Croft figure that is in the likeness of Angelina Jolie. My weirdest - someone gave me a 12-inch Donald Trump "action figure" a few years ago. It's actually really well done.

(I was planning on adding links to images of the first two, but I couldn't find any suitable ones on Google that didn't lead to either auction sites or weird webpages from overseas. Guess that shows how rare they are!)

Superheroes-wise, I confess I go for the cheesecake a bit. I have the DC Covergirls Power Girl, as well as the bigger "action figure" version (also the smaller one visible in the Flicker pictures above). I also picked up the DC Animated version of Wonder Woman. I've also got a growing collection of Doctor Who action figures (including a 10-inch Tenth Doctor that I'm told is pretty uncommon in North America). I figured, if my mom could spend her 50s collecting Cabbage Patch Dolls, I can spend my 40s collecting action figures. Same difference as stamps, really (that rare Jolie figure will probably appreciate in value just as much! ;) )

My collection looks downright modest compared to yours:

I've collected DCUC Green Lantern stuff for quite a while. I've only recently started branching out, so my Justice League and Justice Society are pretty darn small right now. Also, while I don't have that awesome Black Widow, the large Dark Knight and Iron Man figures are made by that same company (Hot Toys) and are frankly even more impressive. The Black Widow figure, believe it or not, is actually considered one of their lesser efforts. Marvel Legends, well I've got a ton of those, as you can see.

Of course, that's just my superhero stuff. I've got a much bigger collection from other properties.

If you want to see some mind boggling collections check out sideshowcollectors.com in the show your shelves section. Insane amounts of money spent not only on the figures themelves but also on the displays in some cases.

Thanks for sharing! That Black Widow figure is really remarkable.

So about the Trump figure... is the hair attached or removable?

Sadly, no, but it is made of the same material, I think, as the original!

I just added to my collection yesterday. Since I'm no longer buying comics on a weekly basis (I dropped the habit cold turkey because of what DC did - see my sig) I sunk some of the money I've saved into a Milla Jovovich Resident Evil figure from the same people who did the Black Widow.

(If you Google "Sideshow resident evil milla" you'll find image links to a number of close-ups of the face on this one. I can't post the links myself because they're all on forums - specifically a forum devoted to Sideshow - and IIRC the board rules here don't allow forum links to be posted).

For those interested, here's a blog with a few images of the Jessica Biel doll from Blade Trinity. I'm still considering getting this one, but Milla trumps Jessica.

My only complaint about these Hot Toys releases is the packaging SUCKS. Black Widow has no display window, just a (very nice, I'll admit) image of Scarlett on the box. The Resident Evil one at least you can open up for a display window, but the doll is set so far back in the packaging you can't see it very well and any light in the room reflects off the plastic big-time. My intent is to put these on display eventually, but sadly I don't have any way to do so right now and especially with that Milla figure and all its small parts I don't want to risk losing pieces. But with that Black Widow being listed on eBay for as much as 3 times the price I paid for it 8 months ago (the Biel is already going up too), I made the call that I'd rather have to keep them in a box for a while and be ready to put them on display once I get a case together than have to shell out really heavy coin down the line, if I can even find them, like that Silken Floss I mentioned.

Here's a blog with images of THAT one to drool over... (and no, the blog is NOT mine! )

^Those are remarkable (if somewhat disturbing) likenesses.
I keep noticing that the value of a lot of my statues keeps going up... if only I could bear to part with them!
I bought the Wolverine premium figure
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=7937
with every intention of displaying it. I just didn't have the space at the time. Now that I have the space, the value has at least tripled. I just can't open it. I'm going to have to sell it considering what it goes for these days.
Speaking of places to put them... I bought three of these:

Now I have to keep collecting to justify the expense!

^Those are remarkable (if somewhat disturbing) likenesses.

I suppose they're a bit "uncanny valley"-ish. But remember they're only the size of, say, the old Bionic Woman action figures of the 1970s (I almost said Barbie, but they're smaller). A life-size version of these would probably be quite disturbing. That's probably why I feel weird when I visit Madame Tussauds. :alienblush:

^ I figured, "What the hell. It's only money." For me the value is in the display. I know the market thinks differently.

That's my opinion too. I also see these sorts of things as art. What's the difference between buying a print of, say, Marilyn Monroe or a 3-D representation of the same, done well. I didn't just buy those Milla and Scarlett items just for the sake of having them, but because the craftsmanship was excellent and, really, there's not that much difference on a basic level than if I'd spent the $(mumble-mumble) on a reproduction of a Roman statue, except they stand a good chance of appreciating in value (this goes for those superhero figures that started this thread, too). I don't smoke and as mentioned my comic book buying has dropped off anyway, so it's easy enough to reallot the $(mumble-mumble) they cost. ;)
