Superbowl '09 Commercials, et al - Your Thoughts

How is the economy affecting the quality of the commercials? Are these companies paying for the ad time but not paying any decent ad writers? My favorite commercials were pretty inexpensive, with the exception of Shatner's paycheck.

Pretty much. Making big, flashy, commercials is expensive. It's not a matter of "decent ad writers" it's a matter of hiring expensive talent, hiring expensive CGI artists, etc. If companies have less money as a result of the economy's collapse and they have to shell out big bucks for ad time (of which NBC had a hard time selling this year compared to other networks other years) they're not going to have a whole lot left to make the actual commercial.

And the big, flashy commercials are the ones that get the most attention -usually.

The one that got the biggest laugh of the night was the E-Trade commercial with the babies. We rewound that and watched it like three times.
Not sure if it was an old one or not but I haven't seen it before and was the one where the old golfer owes him money:

"It was on the carpet- - - Why don't you read the rulebook you shankapotimus.":guffaw::lol::guffaw:

Has the ST:XI commercial aired yet, and if yes how was it?
[There are no commercials in the international broadcast I'm watching]
