Superbowl '09 Commercials, et al - Your Thoughts

It turns out that there was more than one MacGruber ad with RDA. I only was the last one. He is called MacGyver in the first one! Check youtube...

There was actually 3 MAcGruber commercials with Anderson. I only saw the 2nd one. In the first he is called MacGyver. Check youtube...

The only one I really loved was the Doritos crystal ball one. :guffaw:

The MacGruber one was great for RDA showing up in it. :techman:

I got big time laughs out of the Polamalu Coke Zero ad. It took one of the most classic of commercials (Super Bowl or otherwise) and turned it on its ear. The whole shtick was great! :guffaw:

The Macgruber ones were weird because they aired 'em all on SNL last night and also I wonder what the hell the "average" TV viewer made of them.

The crystal ball ad was about the only one I really enjoyed outside of the movie previews. And Witch Mountain? I realize I'm getting old because all the TV shows and movies I grew up with are being remade.

^The Escape to Witch Mountain rip off is really a step too far in the whole "raping my childhood" paradigm. That, coupled with the really, really un-GI Joe looking GI Joe remake was really too much to take in one sitting. :vulcan:

Just watched them on AdBlitz - man, what a weak collection of crap! I think there were about 4 that I thought were funny or good - the rest just bored me to tears or actively annoyed me.

My favorite was probably Jason Statham's Audi ad. Meaning the selection was weak this year, but I expected that because a lot of companies didn't advertise because of the economy.

I also liked the Pedigree one with the pet rhino and osterich and stuff.

Best movie spot for me was Star Trek and Land of the Lost.

Surprising there is no comments yet on the Jack in the Box commercial that ran. When it happened, I was a bit shocked, and I don't know why.

Then the local network had the "Super Bowl XLIII brought to you on NBC 11 by Jack in the Box" and I thought it was hilarious.

hangintherejack.com for updates. ;)

My favorite ad was the Alec Baldwin ad for Hulu. Every time I think he can't top himself, he does something else. I was laughing so hard, it left a lasting impression. "We are really aliens." Classic!

The best two were the Taco Bell dating progression and Priceline's vacation negotiation.

Runners-up are the Hulu spot with Alec Baldwin and the cars.com spot about confidence.

Anyone watch the 3D commercials for "Dreamworks' Monsters vs. Aliens" and Chuck? (There was another one in there but I forget what it was for.)

I watched every second except for the half-time and I only saw a single MacGruber (Pepsuber) commercial. When did the other two air?! I watched the SNL on Sat night and I didn't see RDA in any MacGruber bits.

This wasn't the greatest year for the commercials.
#1 throw the guy out the window (very unexpected, great stunt work)
#2 MacGruber
#3 Alec Baldwin: alien mastermind

I think the muted economy definitely effected the quality of the commercials.

Which, honeslty, I liked it that way. The Super Bowl, sure, is a big event but it should be all about the commercials.
