I bet Sunshine looks amazing on Blu-Ray, but don't expect much on the plot side.

Sunshine looks absolutely amazing on BD. The photography in the film really is top notch.

I just saw this on 8/11 and thought, "Wow!" What an unexpectedly good movie! And the Cinematography was excellent.

Well, I watched it and I'm sad to say that while it looked great, I didn't care for the plot. The former will eventually wear off on me, the latter won't. Two stars on the four-scale.

I really did not like Sunshine, it wanted to be a 'hard science' film ala 2001 and then had a space ship go and try to bomb the sun to make it work right... wtf?!

That's the whole plot though, it's not like they sneak that part in at the end. I'm not so sure they were going for "hard science" though and not just because of the artificial gravity.

When they moved to the payload I thought there was some sort of massive, super-dense cube of material of some sort that created gravity ?

Pretty much agreed on all counts. Sunshine's one of the most visually stunning/impressives pieces of film I've ever seen. It starts out with a fascinating plot and plenty of promise. As well as the visuals, the music is also very good IMO. Sadly, there's that third act, which for me was a massive let down.

I'd watch the movie again, but more for the aesthetics than the plot. It really does look/sound great.

Re other choices, must admit, when I saw Batmin Begins in HD, I wasn't overly impressed. Blade Runner however, looks stunning.

OTOH, based on The Dark Knight Prologue that was also on the Batman Begins BD, I have a feeling that TDK is gonna look sweet on BD.

I have my concerns about The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray. I keep reading about the IMAX stuff Christopher Nolan plans to include on the disc. Only some parts of the film were shot with IMAX in mind which means that the film will keep switching between aspect ratios. Note that the preview is described as an IMAX preview and it's in 16:9, not 2.35:1.

I just want the film as I saw it in the cinema.

^ I'm afraid that's not gonna happen (well it may sometime down the line, but not right away). I personally am really happy with the way Nolan decided to do the Blu-ray. I have no problem with the AR changing throughout the film.

Btw, the IMAX preview wasn't a proper 16:9. It had small black bars on the sides that you'd only notice on a 1080p TV set to full pixel.
